The Paralegal Manager is responsible for managing the Paralegal, Paralegal Assistant, and Other Professional Programs Firmwide, to include recruiting, on-boarding, salary and bonus administration, and collaboration with the Talent and Learn departments on training and professional development of all Paralegals and Paralegal Assistants. Responsible for monitoring workloads, coordinating annual evaluations, addressing performance, maintaining Paralegal and Paralegal Assistant job descriptions, and assisting SBU Managing Directors with various staffing and managerial activities. Essential job functions include:

  • Works with Talent and Learn departments and Practice Specialty Center Leaders to develop and implement substantive Paralegal training program.
  • Works with SBU Managing Directors to address Paralegal staffing, workload, and performance.
  • Works with SBU Paralegal Supervisors during the annual evaluation and bonus processes.
  • Recruits, interviews, and makes hiring recommendations to fill vacant Paralegal, Paralegal Assistant, and Other Professional positions.
  • Works with PSC Leaders, SBU Managing Directors, and supervising attorneys to coach, counsel and discipline Paralegals and Paralegal Assistants.
  • Coordinates annual performance evaluations and provides feedback to Paralegals, Paralegal Assistants, and Other Professionals regarding performance throughout the year.
  • Coordinates and administers annual merit salary adjustments and productivity and discretionary bonus processes.
  • Conduct Exit Interviews and work with supervisory attorneys on departure transitions.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled Firmwide and market specific Paralegal and Paralegal Assistant meetings.
  • Tracks and monitors overtime for Paralegals and Paralegal Assistants.
  • On-boards all new hires in the Paralega, Paralegal Assistant, and Other Professional groups.
  • Ensures Firm policies and procedures are followed by Paralegals and Paralegal Assistants while promoting consistency and fairness.
  • Maintains and updates Paralegal and Paralegal Assistant job descriptions by practice area.
  • Manages Paralegal and Paralegal Assistant Mentor Program.
  • Keeps abreadst of legal industry trends to ensure a competitive and innovative program is maintained.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Paralegal Certificate and 4-year degree with major coursework in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or similar field; or combination of education and commensurate work experience required.
  • 5 years of management experience in related field required.
  • Previous Paralegal experience required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Strategic Business Unit Leaders, Managing Directors, Practice Specialty Center Leaders, Paralegal Supervisors, Chief Growth Officer and other members of the Legal Recruiting team, and all other administrative and lawyer leadership of the Firm.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment at all times by making sound and practical decisions; ability to assume responsibility for decisions and act decisively under deadlines.
  • High level of professional integrity required; ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust.
  • Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team; ability and willingness to adapt to changing business demands.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The full time base annual salary for this position in the Denver, CO market is expected to range between $91,000- $134,000, in Los Angeles the market is expected to range between $105,000- $154,000, and in Oakland the market is expected to range between $106,000- $156,000. Salaries in other markets will vary depending on market data. Bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
