Job Description

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for directing all operations on shift to ensure the daily targets for Safety, Quality, Throughput, and Cost are met for the Turbine Forge Department. The supervisor shall ensure that all parts processed adhere to the engineering procedures to deliver the highest quality possible. In addition, compliance with the operating schedules must be maintained as this is critical to minimizing inventory and ensuring material flow is consistent for downstream operations.

ACTIONS

  • Maintain area safety requirements, ensure employees adhere to PPE requirements, and maintain a clean and organized workplace.
  • Lead the hourly workforce in all areas to ensure all employees are properly trained and adhere to all operations and engineering procedures.
  • Coordinate all on-shift activities in the forge shop to ensure adherence to the forge schedule. Including material verification, monitoring of set up crew, timely loading of product into forge furnaces and ensuring product is moved to the appropriate downstream operation.
  • Effectively communicate with other department leaders within the organization including other operational supervisors, Engineering, and Metallurgy.
  • Monitor all on-shift activities to ensure daily cost is minimized and ongoing efforts are in place to continually drive toward lowering cost per ESH produced.
  • Drive 6S in the shop through the hourly workforce enforcing and sustaining improvements. Perform regular audits.

CHALLENGES:

Describe the key opportunities which must be solved by the position:

  • Drives safety by ensuring PPE requirements are up to date and utilized daily.
  • Ensures 6S and housekeeping expectations are communicated and followed up on to drive a safe work environment.
  • Manages the daily operation in the assigned department. Receives input from hourly, Planning, Engineering, Production and Maintenance Management relating to job assignments and priorities of work.
  • Ensure procedural compliance and closely monitor part quality to drive continuous improvement of FTY. Root causes to quality issues must be identified as they occur and properly communicated to the Quality and Engineering departments.
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure equipment is available to support the PM and survey schedules.
  • Ensures spending is monitored and waste is kept at a minimum.

INTERFACE:

  • Daily meeting to ensure compliance to the preliminary and final forge schedule.
  • Coordinate with IM department to make all furnace adjustments and communicate any equipment or quality issues relating to the forge furnaces.
  • Ensure material is available to support the forge schedule.
  • Regular communication to address all quality issues and process non-conformances.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to help identify root cause and corrective actions to non-conformances.
  • Ensure timely communication of all equipment issues to allow for adequate troubleshooting.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Position needs minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a heavy industry manufacturing department or similar military experience.
  • A college degree is preferred for this position.
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment is a plus.
  • Excellent human relation skills with ability to organize, delegate, problem solve, and train personnel to work within the area.
  • Looking for someone proactive who can drive change and work with others to continuously improve processes.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Good knowledge of industrial systems, plant equipment and processes.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Computer literate. Experience with Windows, Oracle, Excel, Word and Outlook preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in assigned area with good understanding of production operations and customer requirements.
  • Strong people skills.
