The Opportunity
Sr Mechanical Product Development Engineer
Our Actuation Division in Chanhassen, MN is looking for a Sr Mechanical Product Development Engineer to join their team! Reporting to the Engineering Manager of Product Development, you will design and analyze complex mechanical systems for the Electric Actuator industry. You will develop new products and maintain current ones by generating technical documentation for fabrication and sourcing of components as well as assembly of products, ensuring timely completion of projects, within budget guidelines.

Your Challenge:
  • Perform tasks related to new product development projects:
    • Participate in concept generation sessions
    • Prepare concept drawings and models applying DFM principles
    • Request components for prototype preparation (fabricated and purchased)
    • Provide final fabrication documentation for component parts
    • Generate BOMs for new products with full drawing and 3D model package
    • Work closely with our Engineering Tech to produce prototype products for review and testing
    • Test prototype products for fit-up, performance, conformance to the requirements of the product definition
  • Reverse-engineer legacy products and make improvements when warranted.
  • Resolve design problems in assembly and fabrication and implement design changes to improve manufacturability of products.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairs both in-house and at customers’ locations.
  • Interface with distributors and customers to gather information relating to product failures.

Your Expertise:
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or related degree required.
  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in product design in a metal fabrication and assembly operation environment.
  • Highly proficient in 3D modeling, 2D drafting and drawing preparation using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Familiar with Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Working knowledge of ERP system preferred.
  • Technical writing experience preferred.
