CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: The City of Paris, KY is seeking a full-time Public Works Laborer. This is an entry level position with opportunity to grow within the city. The Public works department is responsible to help build, maintain, and manage public infrastructure and the City's physical assets in a manner that keeps them safe, functioning at a high level, and aesthetically pleasing.

Job Duties:

Street repairs including spreading blacktop, repairs to pavement, maintenance and cleaning of city streets and sidewalks, changing/repairing street signs, maintenance of sewers and catch basins, salting and plowing of streets during ice and/or snow conditions, maintaining parks by cutting weeds, shrubs, tree limbs, fallen trees and mowing grass.

Candidate shall have a working knowledge and be able to operate tools and equipment supplied by the Public Works Department. This includes but is not limited to dump trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, backhoes, pick-up trucks, leaf vacuum, lawn mowers, and various hand tools needed to perform assigned tasks.

Successful candidate will have a high school diploma and experience in construction and or maintenance work preferred but not required. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to pass background check and drug screen.

Salary range: $13-15 per hour based on experience.
