ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY


SUMMARY: The ESL (English as Second Language) Program Instructors and STEM Camp Instructors will work at the Global Education Institute of College of Professional and Global Education, under the supervision of Dr. Lisa Xue, Director of Global Education Institute.


SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

ESL Program Instructor:

  • Develop and deliver engaging ESL lecture plans and instructional materials that are aligned with the program objectives, and cater to the English language proficiency levels and ages of the students
  • Utilize a variety of teaching techniques and strategies, such as interactive activities, games, role-plays, and multimedia resources, to create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that promotes language acquisition and cultural understanding
  • Provide support and guidance to students in developing their English language skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes mutual respect and intercultural communication
  • Create and maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student performance, and submit timely reports to the institution as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

STEM Program/Camp Instructor:

  • Develop and deliver engaging STEM (computer science, robotics, engineering, bioscience, etc.) lecture plans, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and resources, including technology, to enhance learning and engagement
  • Assess and evaluate students' progress and performance through ongoing formative and summative assessments, and provide regular feedback to students on their work, progress, and areas for improvement, while maintaining accurate records of assessments and student performance
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to address questions, concerns, and inquiries related to the STEM program, and provide regular updates on student progress and program activities
  • Adhere to the institute's policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive learning environment that meets the needs of diverse learners
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESL Program Instructor:

  • Master's degree in TESOL, English, Education, or a related field
  • Previous experience teaching ESL classes to international students, preferably in an intensive English program setting
  • Knowledge of best practices in ESL instruction, including communicative language teaching methodologies, learner-centered approaches, and proficiency-based assessments
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including record keeping and report writing

STEM Program/Camp Instructor:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM fields, such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, biology, chemistry or a related field
  • Previous experience teaching STEM subjects to students, preferably in an intensive program, a camp, or an education setting
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of STEM concepts, principles, and applications, and ability to communicate them effectively to students of different ages and skill levels
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including record keeping and assessment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ESL Program Instructor

  • Extensive experience working with students from linguistic backgrounds such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean speakers
  • Experience in developing and implementing specialized ESL programs or courses, such as business English, aviation hospitality English, academic English, or test preparation (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, etc.)
  • Knowledge of relevant educational policies, regulations, and accreditation standards related to ESL programs, such as CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) or ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training)

STEM Program/Camp Instructor:

  • Master's degree in a STEM field or Education
  • Familiarity with educational technologies and tools commonly used in STEM instruction, such as coding platforms, robotics kits (VEX), or data analysis software
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to STEM equipment or software

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year.
