In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Invasive Plant Program Specialist / Natural Resources Educator - Senior and Natural Resources Financial Assistant Specialist Senior.

The preferred work locations for these dual positions are Madison, Fitchburg or Rhinelander. Other locations will be considered pending supervisor approval and available space.

This dual LTE appointment is comprised of two 20-hour positions for an expected work schedule of 40 hours per week. The intention is to hire one candidate on both positions. See below for more information on the positions.


Position Summary


Natural Resources Financial Assistance Specialist - Senior

The Invasive Plant Program Specialist works closely with the Forest Invasive Plant Program Coordinator to administer the Weed Management Area - Private Forest Grant Program (WMA-PFGP). This position reviews grant applications and project proposals, tracks the budget, collaborates with partners to achieve desired project outcomes, assesses grant program success, and implements grant program changes. This position routinely interacts with non-profit organizations, private property managers and agency financial and legal specialists.

50% - Grant administration for WMA-PFGP including review of grant applications for completeness and eligibility, communications with grant applicants and recipients on paperwork and project details, data entry of grant details, verification of grant work, coordination of grant reimbursements, tracking of funding and reporting.

40% - Grant program assessment and implementation of program efficiencies.

10% - Report on grant and project outcomes via press releases, newsletter articles, annual reports and other media.


Natural Resources Educator - Senior

The Invasive Plant Program Specialist works closely with the Forest Invasive Plant Program Coordinator to develop and implement statewide invasive plant outreach and training with internal staff and external partners. This position is responsible for creating and administering outreach efforts that enhance technical knowledge and public awareness of invasive plant issues.

60% - Develop and implement an annual educational outreach plan for the Forest Invasive Plant Program. Develop educational outreach materials including social media, newsletter articles, press releases, video scripts, web pages, fact sheets and print media. Ensure technical information is accessible and persuasive to the target audiences.

40% - Coordinate training framework and workshop logistics for internal staff and external partners.


Salary Information


These positions pay between $22.00 - $24.00 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 15-03 and 07-03. For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details


This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

Qualifications


NR Financial Assistance Specialist - Senior

Required:
  • Excellent communication and organization skills with attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work effectively with teams and a diverse group of customers
  • Must possess a valid driver's license or be able to provide your own transportation. Some overnight travel will be required.
Preferred:
  • Work experience demonstrating organization skills
  • Work experience coordinating projects with multiple partners
  • Interest in invasive plant issues

Natural Resources Educator - Senior

Required:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills with attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work effectively with teams and a diverse group of customers
  • Must possess a valid driver's license or be able to provide your own transportation. Some overnight travel will be required.
Preferred:
  • Experience coordinating event logistics
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite products
  • Experience in natural resources communication strategy
  • Ability to translate technical and scientific information into layperson language
