Charting Careers High School & Beyond Coordinator Position Description 2023

Charting Careers mission is to inspire youth to discover their power and reach their goals through transformative mentoring, life-enriching opportunities, family partnership and by serving as champions for equity in collaboration with community partners. We work with students and their families in 2nd grade through middle, high school, and beyond, focusing on students who face opportunity gaps in Annapolis. The High School & Beyond Coordinator is a key part of our team, reporting to and supported by the Education Director. The position must also work closely with the Mentor & Volunteer Director and Family Partnership Team.

Position Goals:

High School and beyond scholars will...

  • Demonstrate achievement of goals, as tracked by staff and student documentation
  • Demonstrate increased protective factors on end of year survey, e.g. positive relationships withtrusted adults, service to others, engagement in community activities, etc
  • Complete their resume and participate in mock interviews, career and college research, job fairs,informational interviews, and college visits
  • Obtain internships, part-time jobs and/or college scholarships
  • Graduate high school with a plan for college or career of choice
  • Follow through with post-high school plan
  • Matriculate and successfully complete post-high school education (e.g. college, trade programs)

Position Description:

The High School & Beyond Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Charting Careers Live Your Story program to registered Charting Careers high school and beyond participants. The coordinator will connect students to existing resources and facilitate partnerships to support their individual goals.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate with other staff, volunteers, the Annapolis High School school counselor or social worker, and other key education and community partners, such as the Key School or AACC
  • Support recruitment and enrollment of high school students and work with the Family Partnership team to obtain signed Charting Careers enrollment and other permission forms
  • Review and plan the yearly HS and beyond program calendar with the Education Director and plan lessons for each session with scholars
  • Plan and lead weekly 1-hour programming at Annapolis High School with a group of 10-20 students in 9th through 12th grade, twice a month after school sessions, and other field trips or outings, as appropriate
  • Plan and pick up food as needed for sessions with scholars
  • Identify and schedule appropriate guest speakers and partners as needed to support program goals
  • Establish communications systems to use with students, their families, and volunteers for updates and reminders
  • Ensure that general and individualized goals are created for all participants
  • Coordinate with parents/caregivers, the Charting Careers Mentor & Volunteer Director, and other key staff
  • In collaboration with the Mentor & Volunteer Director and Key School College Advisor, facilitate2-4 college visits per academic year
  • Update and maintain documentation
  • Assist students with the planning and facilitation of their annual college tours and career networking events
  • Check in periodically with our high school graduates to provide support and to ensure all appropriate Charting Careers enrollment form, scholarship applications, and other scholarship opportunities are completed

Qualifications:

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree in a related field preferred

Experience

  • Experience as an educator, working collaboratively with colleagues, and building relationships with young people and their families
  • Experience in program and case management

Skills and Abilities

  • Leadership Skills: The High School & Beyond Coordinator must be an effective leader who is an efficient planner, a creative problem solver, flexible, and a great critical thinker
  • Lesson Planning and Implementation: Must be knowledgeable of career and college readiness programming, soft skills training, social emotional well-being, classroom management, and trauma informed practices to plan and facilitate lessons.
  • Optimism and Relationship Building: As the High School & Beyond Coordinator works with various stakeholders, it is critical that the person in this position is optimistic, friendly, approachable, and skilled at building and maintaining relationships.
  • Self Starter: The person in this position must be a self starter, willing to jump into projects, and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Communications and collaboration: The High School & Beyond Coordinator must collaborate and communicate effectively, both in writing and in-person, with other staff, partner agencies, volunteers, board members, and families.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills: Organization and prioritization are critical for the High School & Beyond Coordinator’s success. The person in this position must utilize great organizational skills and prioritize tasks by urgency and importance. They must also demonstrate effective time management and work on several projects concurrently.
  • Technology: The High School & Beyond Coordinator must be well versed in Google Suite, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and other online platforms.

Working Conditions:

  • There is flexibility and room for input in work setting and schedule, except for set times for staff meetings and group programming currently occurring on Tuesday afternoons, Wednesdays between 10am and 12pm, and after school days are yet to be determined.
  • A mixture of working from the office, home office or coffee shops, leading sessions at Annapolis High School, and having meetings at community places

Other Requirements:
Must successfully complete background check, fingerprinting, and Employment History Review for Child Sexual Abuse and Misconduct.

Hours and Compensation:
The position is for approximately 10 hours per week for $30-40 per hour, depending on experience. For now, this position will go through June 31, 2024 with the possibility of extending into the future. This is a part-time employee position without benefits or paid time off.
