This role will be responsible for managing Ironshore/Liberty Mutual?s healthcare liability underwriting operations for the West zone which includes the Northwest and Southwest regions. Lines of business include: Healthcare Professional Liability for Hospitals, Senior Care, Miscellaneous Medical, and Group Physicians; Managed Care E&O/D&O; Life Sciences; and Regulatory. The Zonal leaders will lead underwriting teams and provide leadership to enable them to achieve their respective business objectives.
Responsibilities
  • Execute healthcare's strategy to attain production and profitability results across the zone and applicable regions, wholesale, and retail channels through the deployment of product and underwriting expertise on transactional and portfolio decisions.
  • Acquisition, retention, and development of underwriting managers and underwriters; formally managing, guiding, mentoring, and coaching them in both technical and professional skills.
  • Motivate and inspire employees to do their best work by creating an inclusive and innovative culture where each individual feels valued and thrives.
  • Manage the zonal P&L to assure profitable growth, retention, rate, and other production metrics across all products and distribution channels.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to maintain alignment on product and underwriting offerings.
  • Collaborate closely with GRS Distribution, including Field Operations Regional Executives.
  • Develop and deploy a business development and engagement strategy with supporting processes, tools, and capabilities.
  • Maintain executive level relationships with top broker partners and engaging corporate level resources while fully promoting and representing the Liberty Mutual and Ironshore brand.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key clients, focusing on their needs and priorities while promoting the breadth of Liberty Mutual/Ironshore products.
  • Drive profitable cross-sell of Liberty/Ironshore products across their region and underwriting team.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training, plus at least 10 years of relevant and progressively more responsible production underwriting experience
  • Experience in healthcare or medical malpractice underwriting is a firm requirement
  • Requires an advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, computers and product competition within the marketplace
  • Requires at least 3 years of experience with people management
  • Advanced knowledge of a technical specialty
  • The ability to effectively interact with brokers and internal departments
  • Strong verbal and written communications, and organizational skills
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills
