Dominican Village is a not-for-profit, senior living community and assisted living residence founded in 1992 by the sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, New York. Its mission is to provide a supportive environment in which the sacredness of life and the dignity of each person are held in the highest regard and to offer its residents a choice of programs and services which foster independence, promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, and maximize opportunities for socialization.

Dominican Village is currently seeking a full-time Activities Director to plan, organize and administer the activities and volunteer services. Duties will include developing and conducting a diverse program of activities that meets residents’ needs, recruiting and orienting community volunteers, supervising Activities staff and schedules, monitoring department budget, updating company social media sites, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures that in the Activities Department all work and employee interaction among themselves and with the residents will be carried out in a manner that is reflective of the values of Dominican Village. This includes demonstrating respect for the dignity of each person and a commitment to a continuance of independence of the residents, fostering quality of life with growth and interaction, exhibiting respect for the rights of residents to privacy and choice, and ensuring a secure and welcoming environment.

2. Develops and maintains Activities/Volunteer policies and procedures for the Independent and Assisted Living Residence programs.

3. Responsible for the development of a diversified program of activities inclusive of, but not limited to, exercise classes, lectures, trips, games, arts and crafts, shopping, celebrations, and special leisure activity programs that are responsive to the needs and interests of the residents.

4. Responsible to encourage participation by the residents in community events and in-house activities through posting of monthly calendars and by coordinating efforts of Dominican Village staff to remind residents about the daily offerings.

5. Collaborates with other departments to meet the intellectual, social, recreational and spiritual needs related to the cultural and social backgrounds of residents ensuring a quality of life for our residents.

6. Responsible for overseeing all processes related to the arrangements for programs at Dominican Village including room reservations, coordinating transportation when necessary, refreshments and staffing needs.

7. Responsible for offering enrichment programs of interest to Dominican Village residents.

8. Develops and implements an effective auditing process for all aspects of the Activities Department to ensure readiness for survey.

9. Responsible for recruiting community volunteers from local schools, civic organizations, educational forums, local parishes etc., for maintaining a Volunteer Handbook, and for conducting initial orientation for all community and special event/fundraising volunteers.

10. Responsible for overseeing community volunteer personnel files including contact information, orientation and in-service documentation and required physical exam/tuberculosis screening records according to New York State Department of Health regulations.

College degree in recreation therapy preferred, although a degree in physical education, social science, job guidance, arts/dramatics, and related subjects may qualify. CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) and CDP (Certified Dementia Practitioner) are desired qualifications as well.

Dominican Village requires all candidates to show valid proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 (1st vaccine, 2nd vaccine, and booster) before commencing work.

Pay: $59,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
