Job Summary:

FAR Group is seeking a psychiatrist to provide responsible mental health services to the inmate population within the facility, consistent with the Department's mission to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth from crime and to offer programs to help inmates lead crime-free lives.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct initial evaluations and thorough mental health assessments of inmates
• Provide recommendations and psychopharmacological treatment for inmates with psychiatric, psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and/or neurological disorders
• Monitor the effects of medications on a regular basis and continue prescriptions only as deemed necessary and discontinue medications as soon as considered appropriate
• Emphasize the promotion of lasting behavioral change in the treatment of an inmate's mental health issues, with medications considered as a tool to help engender responsiveness to therapeutic efforts
• Refer to, consult with, and coordinate with the senior psychology staff and other mental health and Departmental staff in providing mental health services
• Provide services for up to 16 hours per week at Coffeewood Correctional Center, a combination of on-site services and services provided via telehealth
• Submit an accounting of hours worked each week to the facility's Psychology Associate Senior and prepare an invoice and bill the Department for the hours actually worked, up to the required total

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctor of Medicine degree with a completed Residency in Psychiatry or Doctor of Medicine who is BC/BE (Board Certified/Board Eligible) in Psychiatry
• Graduate medical training (residency/fellowship) in psychiatry from ACGME accredited or AMA approved programs or any post-graduate training certifications
• Current valid license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Current professional certifications
• Current and valid DEA certificate
• Current and valid National Provider Identifier (NPI)
• Verification of any hospital privileges

The candidate must be willing to work in a challenging and dynamic environment and maintain a professional and effective work relationship with other staff.
