This position manages workers comp and TX Injury Benefit claims for all entities in McLane's insurance program which covers over 23,000 teammates and could significantly impact the bottom line. This position will monitor claim reserves, manage programs to improve compliance, and reduce cost of claims.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Manage work, performance, and development/training of liability claims staff.
  • Manage outsourced claims by monitoring workloads, monitoring choice of adjusters handling McLane's claims, monitoring claims, etc.
  • Determine and monitor performance standards through on-site file review process, which includes ongoing feedback to vendor(s).
  • Ensure claims reserves are adequate to reflect probable ultimate outcome.
  • Ensure compliance in all service areas covered by special account claims handling instructions.
  • Maintain strong business relationships with Brokers, Carriers, third party administrators (TPA), etc.
  • Review and authorize payment of all invoices.
  • Advise Corporate Accounting on completion of State reports for self-insured jurisdictions and on payment and internal accounting issues specific to McLane's current and legacy programs.
  • Authorize settlement of claims up to $200,000.
    • Workers Comp claims: Grant authority to TPA.
    • TX Injury Benefit claims: Grant authority to TPA, defense counsel, or negotiate directly with injured teammate. Supervise liability and damage analyses for TX Injury claims which present liability exposure to McLane Company.
  • Prepare/distribute financial and other data reports as needed to all McLane operating units, senior Management, brokers, and underwriters.
  • Oversee litigated Workers Comp and TX Injury Benefit claims. Choose defense counsel best suited to represent McLane Company vs. insurance carrier or TPA.
  • Effectively work with departments to resolve claims issues that overlap into their areas of responsibility (Legal, HR, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • College degree preferred or at least eight years direct experience managing worker's compensation claims for a company or third-party administrator.
  • 8 or more years of TPA/Insurance Carrier experience or equivalent in workers compensation and general/auto liability claims.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Experience with vendor and litigation management.
  • Experience with multi-company and multi-location companies.
  • Expert knowledge of legislative issues in states where McLane does business or has claims.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and achieve business goals and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other workers comp and claims-related software.
