Job Title: Camp Counselor

Reports To: Location Lead

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Part-Time Camp Counselor to join our team at a summer chess camp in Oregon. The successful candidate will work alongside other coworkers to provide a fun and safe learning environment for children who are passionate about chess. As a Camp Counselor, you will be responsible for assisting the Location Lead with chess lessons and other activities, supervising campers, and ensuring that they have a positive and rewarding experience.

Essential Functions

• Assist with organizing and facilitating daily camp activities, such as chess instruction, tournaments, and recreational games.
• Supervise campers during meals, breaks, and other activities to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
• Help campers develop their chess skills and provide individualized instruction when necessary.
• Encourage campers to be respectful, inclusive, and supportive of their peers.
• Ensure that camp facilities are kept clean and orderly.
• Act as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating good sportsmanship and empathy.
• Communicate effectively with other staff members and parents regarding camper progress and concerns.

Position Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age
• Prior experience working with children in a camp or educational setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
• Knowledge of chess and experience playing the game.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with other coworkers.
• Willingness to undergo a criminal background check and provide references

Schedule

The Part-Time Camp Counselor position is a seasonal role that will run from June 26th to August 11th. There will be a week-long training in early-mid June. The camp operates Monday through Friday, from 8:45am to 2:15pm. The successful candidate will work a part-time schedule of approximately 25 hours per week.

Compensation

The Part-Time Camp Counselor position offers an hourly compensation of $16 an hour
