Summary
Serves as a project lead to guide a 4-5 person student crew to complete the installation of an 18 hole disc golf course (frisbee golf) on State Trust Land in Silver City, NM.

This position is under the Youth Conservation Corps and as such the Crew Lead will need to be between 18-25 years of age and a New Mexico resident. The position is a temporary, non-benefit eligible position. Successful candidates will earn academic credit through a 3 credit course in outdoor recreation management, and become certified in wilderness first aid and defensive driving.

THIS STUDENT POSITIONS IF FOR WNMU REGULAR STUDENTS (not Dual Enrollment) ONLY. If you are between the ages of 18-25 but not a WNMU student or are a Dual Enrollment student please apply through the Staff Position.

Duties
1. Guides the development and installation of a public disc golf course on State Trust Land where hand tools must be carried over rugged terrain and long distances.
2. Manages the site construction and project needs. Create the crew work and training schedules and assure crew maintains the schedule. Participates as a team member to complete construction.
3. Works with Supervisor to prepare material lists, orders materials, and supplies. Provides oversight for all deliveries of materials to work site (e.g. cement, gravel, water).
4. Meets with Supervisor weekly.
5. Trains crew in the use of hand tools and ensures crew members stay on task to complete project
6. Operates light equipment as needed, including but not limited to gas-powered auger.
7. Performs a variety of duties related to building a disc golf course including but not limited to clearing brush, concrete work, GPS navigation, installing tee pads, moving rocks, carrying equipment over uneven terrain, installing and designing signage, etc.
8. Participate in orientation, safety meetings, and other trainings.
9. Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Background
Current WNMU student.

Job Knowledge
Ability to effectively supervise, train, and manage a crew to complete the goals of the project in a timely manner. Working knowledge of equipment, hazards, and safety precautions in outdoor, field-based settings. Ability to maintain good working relationships with crew, Director, Town officials, local businesses, and members of the public. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Able to maintain records and keep track of details. Knowledge of and interest in disc golf is a plus. Defensive driving is a plus but this training will be provided if necessary. Demonstrate an excellent work ethic, dependability, motivation, and ability to communicate and work as part of a team.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Outside grounds and construction environment. Travel within the community and to site. May be required to lift, push, and pull equipment and materials on a constant basis up to 50lbs. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps in construction sites. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to insure safety. Must be able to climb ladder and work in restricted work spaces. Must be able to follow all safety protocols. This position requires mostly work outside during all seasons. Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Other Requirements
Must be a New Mexico Resident between 16-25 years of age. Must have a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience. Prefer Previous YCC supervisory experience preferred, but will accept previous supervisory experience in another relevant setting.
