Preschool Special Education Teacher Full-time 2022-23 School Year

Our preschool program serves children aged 2-6 with and without special needs, and our team-focused, transdisciplinary approach supports optimal growth for children, their families, and our team members. If you are interested in joining our team, you will have to have a current license to teach preschool special education in Ohio. We are looking for a good communicator with a collaborative spirit and positive attitude who will take a proactive approach to problem-solving and working with team members and families.

REQUIRED: Candidates must be licensed through the Ohio Department of Education to teach preschoolers with special needs aged 3-5 years old.

Required license or certification: Ohio Department of Education license or endorsement to teach Preschool Special Education.

Preferred: Dual licensure in early childhood general and special education (Ohio license or endorsement to teach typical and special needs preschoolers).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for your team in planning/implementation of activities and interventions, classroom management & organization, communication with families, communication with administration, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide inviting, developmentally appropriate environments indoors and out that support implementation of consistent routines, engaging learning experiences, and individualized interventions.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with Ohio Early Learning & Development Standards and meet the individual needs of children and the group as a whole.
  • Contribute to the development of students’ IEPs in collaboration with our team members, team members from each child’s school district, and children’s family members.
  • Plan and implement interventions and behavior plans to support achievement of IEP goals for children with special needs in collaboration with specialists on your classroom team and with students’ families.
  • Administer developmental screenings and assessments for the purpose of identifying strengths and needs of individual children, developing lesson plans and interventions that are appropriate for each child, monitoring child progress, reporting progress to families and school districts, and to comply with state-mandated requirements.
  • Plan and conduct teacher/family conferences at least twice a year (following Center schedule and individually as needed). Prior to in-person classes, teaching teams will conduct “home visits” virtually.
  • Collaborate effectively with Teacher Assistants, Childhood League volunteers and community volunteers, and students completing field placement hours in our Center for the purpose of providing enriching child and family experiences and strengthening community partnerships.
  • Maintain Ohio Professional Licensure by meeting Ohio Department of Education requirements.
  • Meet annual and biennial state requirements for training and professional development related to preschool licensing and inter-agency agreements.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; ability to quickly stoop, squat, run, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, push, pull or twist, floor play work (physically able to sit for long periods of time on hard floor surfaces and/or limited carpet area). Will be required to move/lift/relocate pieces of adaptive equipment.

Pay: $41,500.00 - $48,500.00 per year
