MU TITLE: Senior Agriculture Associate

LOCATION: Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center, Albany MO

The Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center is located near Albany, MO. Demonstrations and research at the 375-acre Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center are made possible through the generosity of Elma Hundley and Lulu Whaley. Hundley-Whaley has a large variety of research projects going on throughout the year. The Center focuses on improved management practices for corn, soybeans, wheat, industrial hemp, small acre entrepreneur crops (e.g. sunflowers, sweetcorn, popcorn and pumpkins), horticultural crops, beekeeping, native warm season grasses and forbs, pollinator habitat, timber, bottomland soils and supporting research in alternative crop and Extension demonstration projects. The Extension and Education Center is noted for excellence in research for pesticide, fertilizer, and varietal evaluations and comparisons.

This position will assist the Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center Director in farm responsibilities such as maintaining bulk, demonstration, and research field plots along with farm’s equipment and buildings.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • May allocate work and provide guidance to other team members, especially as it relates to farm operations.

  • Oversees the storage and disposal of farm related chemicals (e.g., pesticides, mechanical oil, etc.)

  • Responsible for the care and upkeep of Extension Center facilities.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment such as (but not limited to) tractors, combines, trucks, mowers, sprayers, and various other vehicles and equipment used at the facility.

  • Carry out assignments in research plots, which may involve collecting data on plant, insect, and disease populations, applying protocol application of pesticide and/or fertilizer per plots, and sometimes mechanically addressing weed control.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.


LEADERSHIP RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Administrative supervision is received from the Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center Director. This position may mentor/supervise others in completing event related duties. This position may allocate work and provides subject matter guidance to other team members (e.g., preparing schedules and planning and assigning work according to the schedules).

Salary

Salary Range: $16.23 to $21.59 per hour

Grade: GGS-007

University Title: Senior Agriculture Associate

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Ability to work some flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, may be required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

A valid Driver’s License is required.

Preferred Qualifications

An ideal candidate must work well as a team and also be able to work independently.
