POSITION CONCEPT
This position is responsible for aiding in the performance of technical accounting research regarding the application of generally accepting accounting principles (US GAAP and IFRS) for TECO Energy and its operating companies; Assisting with the monthly closing of TECO Energy subsidiaries; Leading the management and collection of Audit PBC items for interim and year-end audit related requests and assisting with the performance of walkthroughs and controls testing. Additionally, this position provides technical support for the Company’s corporate accounting and financial reporting groups and assumes responsibility for certain ongoing corporate accounting activities.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and evaluate new and proposed accounting standards for applicability to TECO Energy and its operating companies as assigned. Communicates finding to TECO Energy’s and its operating companies’ accounting groups regarding accounting policies and practices.
  • Contribute to technical research regarding application of GAAP to unique or new transactions and circumstances for TECO Energy and its operating companies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards, interpretations of standards (for example, interpretative positions of external auditors, SEC, PCAOB), and research resources.
  • May attend industry accounting focus groups (i.e. Edison Electric Institute, American Gas Association).
  • Responsible for reporting compliance mandated by the US Census Bureau related to annual business surveys
  • Performs walkthroughs and participates in the design of SOX controls.
  • Plays a significant role in the management of audit related PBC items.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college/university

Licenses/Certifications
Preferred:

  • CPA is preferred

Related Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of familiarity with stock compensation rules, financial closing process, and SEC reporting.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2 years public accounting experience in a big four or national firm is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required:

  • Requires thorough understanding of accounting standards promulgated by the FASB, SEC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP is required.
  • Must be extremely organized, detailed, deadline and execution-oriented, with strong analysis, communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of auditing standards and SEC requirements is preferred.
