The Role

Position Purpose

What’s the role –

Shell Polymers Monaca is a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades locally-produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations gas production to make polyethylene. The site is complete with construction, commissioning, and start-up. The site is in the process of stabilizing all unit operations and demonstration of design capacities and performance which is expected to occur during 2023. The scope of this role includes both reaction and finishing operations in the Polyethylene Operations of the site.

The Production Engineer Role is responsible for the Technical Assurance within their area of responsibility. The Production Engineer provides proactive technical support to help ensure that their assigned process unit and systems are operated in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner in accordance with established guidelines.

Dimensions:

  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Operations in delivery of production plans.
  • Monitor the technical performance of the plants; provide guidance to operations on unit optimization, management of alarms and for provision of cost-effective technical solutions to constraints and emerging problems.
  • Identify, plan and realize improvement opportunities proactively and in response to a changing business environment.
  • Provides and approves technical documentation to ensure knowledge retention, continuity, and organizational learning.
  • Provides the process engineering Technical Assurance function for Management of Change (MOC) requirements in their assigned area.
  • Provides technical guidelines for high impact events such as unit performance testing.
  • Provides process engineering representation in Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and Incident Investigations within assigned area.
  • Provide support to long term strategy planning for the assigned unit(s)
  • Provides support and leadership to multidiscipline teams addressing cross organizational issues / opportunities.
  • Ensures process team engagement with the Shell Projects and Technology specialists to keep them informed as to the major unit/systems issues and progress in resolving.
  • Discusses advantages and disadvantages of changes to the operation to enhance the performance of the units/systems.
  • Prepare or present the technical content of specialized Operator/Craft training.
  • Provide effective condition monitoring of assigned units through implementation of unit monitoring protocols.
  • Consistent identification of potential threats and opportunities and the translation of these into timely investigations and improvement actions.
  • To ensure that daily focus is maintained on running the plant and that work priorities are aligned with plant operational and maintenance needs.
  • To support Production in the delivery of performance targets.
  • To deliver effective alarm management at assigned process units.
  • To compile month end data and deliver performance review/analysis including energy, variance analysis and plan delivery.
  • To maintain basic data and plant constraint information and contribute to the development of monthly production plans.
  • To support implementation and maintenance of HSSE critical work processes - such as Hazzard and Effects Management Process, Ensure Safe Production, Maintenance Execution and Equipment Care, Turnaround Planning and Scope Development - on as a when needed basis.
  • To support design reviews, safety/risk assessments and functional value analyses as applicable.
  • To ensure process engineering activities comply with Asset Integrity Requirements - Process Safety Management Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • To work with Project Technology organization and third-party technical specialists to provide cost effective and leading-edge technical development and solutions for assigned processing units.
  • To support implementation of LEAN tactics on a when needed basis.
  • To mentor and develop lesser-experienced staff.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you –

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative/team environment
