Job Description
Provide technical support to improve and optimize manufacturing operations and processes at the manufacturing site. The plant process engineering supervisor, develops and supervises the plant process engineers and would receive assignments of more complexity and scope than a plant process engineer. The plant process engineering supervisor takes an active leadership role in initiating process improvements and guiding and mentoring their direct reports.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
  • Acts as a safety leader. Demonstrates safety leadership by complying with all safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures; participating in safety programs, and encouraging employee involvement from all employees in all safety activities. Supports all written safety programs and safety training.
  • Initiates equipment modifications to increase machine productivity and reduce waste. The machinery is flexible packaging converting equipment, which includes, but is not limited to: flexographic printing presses, adhesive laminators, extrusion laminators and rewinders.
  • Initiates and documents procedures to increase machine productivity and reduce waste
  • Troubleshoots manufacturing operations process problems
  • Supervises the Plant Process Engineers, Plant Process Engineering Co-ops and oversees the Plant Process Engineering Co-op program
  • As the supervisor in the department, offers expertise and experience to their reports and less experienced members of the department
  • Assigned a leadership role in our Continuous Improvement and Lean initiatives
  • Trains machine operators on new equipment installations, equipment modifications and new operating procedures
  • Maintains Standard Operating Conditions system which ensures consistent manufacturing equipment processing conditions
  • Investigates causes of ongoing process, quality, production efficiency and high waste problems. Then develops solutions using problem solving techniques
  • Facilitates updates to manufacturing departments on the status of above-mentioned duties
  • Leads the interview process of candidates for filling position openings in the technical support group
  • Identifies potential areas for improvement in the process group, and develops action plans and leads improvements in those areas
WHAT WE VALUE
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to work with manufacturing operations personnel
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • General knowledge of Bemis products, including the desired properties and quality standards for those products
  • Must have strong time management skills to handle multiple ongoing projects in addition to day to day process problems
  • General knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong knowledge of processes used to manufacture flexible packaging. Including blown film, flexographic/rotogravure printing, extrusion coating, adhesive lamination, and rewinding
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU
  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science field is required, in addition to 5+ years experience in an engineering role in a flexible packaging converting operation.
  • Trade journals, trade shows, technical seminars, management seminars, equipment supplier contacts and raw material supplier contacts.
