Job Description


The University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking a Principal Program Manager to support the Midwest Microelectronics Collective (MMC) . UMKC is the largest comprehensive, fully accredited university in the Kansas City area and the only public research university in our community. As part of the Kansas-Missouri initiative, the MMC’s aim is to improve quality of life by bridging academia with industry to address complex problems along with the Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy (MIDE). The Principal Program Manager is an intricate part of successfully meeting the MMC’s agenda. As a talented collaborator, you will ensure that the MMC’s mission to develop technologies that impact society is met. The Principal Program Manager will identify as a growth-oriented and independent professional who is comfortable working with various leaders in an ambiguous space. The responsibilities of the role are included below:

  • Collect, curate and identify gaps in the supply chain and technical/logistical requirements
  • Keep MMC (existing, new and potential members) informed on:
  • proposal opportunities
  • process instructions of MMC functions
  • teaming opportunities
  • pool of small businesses that could contribute to or startup within the MMC
  • Coordinate between MMC fiscal and investigators to keep MMC projects on time and on budget
  • Examine and be vocal about inefficiencies in the execution of the MMC
  • Attend meetings and represent the MMC when requested
  • Create visualizations, draft reports, briefing slides, quad charts and other matter requested by sponsors or as otherwise needed to inform the MMC at each level
  • Manage grant-related correspondence with federal and non-profit granting institutions
  • Travel as required to maintain communication/relationships with MMC constituency plan and manage meetings or events in support of internal MMC operations and external-audience engagement.

The ideal candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment both internal and external to the UMKC. You will be a task coordinator with the flexibility to prioritize projects when the need arises. The ideal candidate will maintain professional integrity in a fast-paced environment with frequent demands and changes. You will show initiative by locating new opportunities as well as foster self-management tools to continuously keep track of tasks and goals for each project. Additional traits for the ideal candidate are included below:

  • Ability to network and advocate for the MMC’s initiative to build a community of partnerships with various constituency groups
  • Ensure that team projects and/or tasks are completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Respond to client requests for services and assign related tasks to the rest of the team
  • Monitor tasks and check in with staff daily to make sure projects are on track for timely completion to move workgroups forward
  • Build reports that improve the team’s production outcomes.
  • Must be comfortable fielding questions from all sides and finding answers to resolve complex problems
  • Ability to ensure the accuracy of data obtained and communicate information to a variety of groups on and off campus

$63,860 - $94,275/ year

Grade: 12

Shift


8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, additional hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Government relations experience at the Federal Level
  • Masters in a STEM related field or equivalent
  • Business development experience in defense, energy or similar programs
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility of a project or program exceeding $1M
  • Project management experience of 5 years or greater
  • Experience writing and winning federal proposal opportunities from multiple agencies
  • Experience managing federal grants
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the coordination of teams containing more than ten entities
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage complex agreements with more than five subcontractors
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic US government procurement processes
  • An understanding of higher education vs. small business vs. government operating principles
  • Eligible for a US National Security Clearance
