Job Summary


This position will provide skilled maintenance and repair work to the heating and cooling plant systems, power equipment and other mechanical systems to ensure a safe and secure environment at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Shakopee.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, heating and mechanical systems equipment as prescribed in preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of all equipment used in the operation of the institution.

This position may have direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:

Current licensure in Minnesota as a First Class C Boiler Operator. (NOTE: Applicants with current licensure in Minnesota as a Second Class C Boiler Operator may be considered for a provisional appointment until obtaining licensure as a First Class C Boiler Operator.)

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

+ Two or more years of work experience in HVAC repair and maintenance.

+ Experience with building automation systems.

+ Experience with hot water and hydronic heating.

+ Experience working with a preventative maintenance plan.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis (TB) and respiratory screening. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. For a copy of the PDA, please email Cindy Juliar at cindy.juliar@state.mn.us.

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
