Come and join the Kennebec Pharmacy team! We have a full-time Compounding Pharmacist opening at our Leighton Road, Augusta location. This is an 8-5, Monday-Friday schedule with an on call rotation.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacist dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care through retail compounding, hospice, and home infusion.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Checks and oversees the processing of health center prescriptions, checks E-kits and compounded medications.
  • Research new compounding formulas.
  • Inspects the health centers monthly and hospice house bi-monthly.
  • Supplies medications to doctor’s offices.
  • Oversees the ordering of health center meds, E-kit meds, and compounding medications.
  • Assists with marketing of our compounded medications.
  • Reviews prescriptions issued by the physician or other authorized prescriber to ensure accuracy and participates in preparation and dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Directs pharmacy technicians engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Enters data, such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files and inventory.
  • Maintains total compliance with the Maine Pharmacy Act, any other state or federal pharmacy-related laws or rules, the rules of the Board of Pharmacy and KPHC policies and procedures.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning operations, quality assurance, security of controlled substances, inventory control, record maintenance, disposal of hazardous waste drugs, and inspections/audits.
  • Participates in “on-call” rotation.
  • Ensures consistent familiarity with on-going changes in pharmacy practices, professional techniques, technological innovations, and revisions to industry standards.
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clearly understands the purpose, as well as participates in the Improvement Organization Performance program.
  • Takes responsibility for self-protection while working in hazardous situations, and practices universal precautions.
  • Always maintains professional appearance and attitude.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and rights.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school or foreign equivalent.
  • Current Maine Registered Pharmacist License.
  • Good organizational, time management, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Two or more years of experience in pharmacy operations preferred.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees performance of pharmacy technicians in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws.
