Here is some of what you can expect from being a Pathology Technician with us:

  • Coordinates and maintains Anatomic Pathology reports and slide fi les, including coordinating pathologist quality assessment review process, retrieval for legal cases and slide acquisition for physician review to ensure accurate record maintenance, quick retrieval and completion of the quality assessment process
  • Assists Staff Assistant with answering phones and other clerical duties, as needed
  • Maintains current knowledge of hospital phone system and laboratory paging system to ensure excellent customer service and efficient communication
  • Facilitates the receipt of patient specimens, verifying the accuracy of patient identification information and accessioning specimens to ensure accuracy of specimen identification and proper billing
  • Performs a wide variety of technical, clerical and administrative duties, such as preparing stains, preparing cytology reports, obtaining appropriate signatures, distributing completed reports, maintaining slide and report files, tracking specimens in process, distribution of specimen collection materials and other technical functions to facilitate workflow efficiency
  • Assists, when needed, in the Histopathology area and the Central Slide Area, including logging in specimens, preparing stains, and performing quality control to facilitate efficient workload

  • Retrieves and faxes reports for physician offices to ensure accurate, timely communication of results to physicians
  • Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
  • Properly handling and processing hazardous chemicals and waste as needed

What qualifications you will need:

  • Demonstrated basic computer skills, knowledge of anatomy, work processing skills, communication, and problem solving ability
