The Department of Biomedical Engineering has a tenure-track position in biomedical sensors, anticipated to be appointed at the Assistant Professor level. This role will complement and add to our departmental expertise in micro- and nanotechnology for biomedical sensors with an independent and supported research program and contribute to our world-class educational program. In particular, the successful candidate will lead a research program with a focus in surface-enhanced Raman biosensor development and application for biomedical sensing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering or related field
  • High-quality and high-impact research that is evident by a robust publication record and grant writing experience
  • Technical innovation that is evident by patents or similar IP
  • High-quality education and mentoring experience that is evident from student mentoring and achievements of mentored students, teaching feedback, and presentation skills
  • A record of advising, mentoring, motivating, and impacting students from all backgrounds, including students from underrepresented groups

  • A commitment to interdisciplinary education and collaborative research
  • A familiarity working with campus administrators and leaders
  • A track-record of, and strong commitment to, cultivating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment, including in faculty and staff development, hiring, and student recruitment

Department Overview:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at OSU was founded in 2006 following a 35 year history as a research center, and we currently have 31 departmental faculty and over 60 affiliated graduate faculty. Our tradition of excellence in research and education includes a continuously ABET accredited undergraduate program and world class research facilities across the university. The Department is housed within the highly ranked College of Engineering and has very close ties with our many highly ranked health sciences colleges including the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, and Optometry – all on the same campus. In addition, the combined technical, core, and clinical research facilities of the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, the NSF-supported Mathematical Biosciences Institute, the Ohio Supercomputer Center, and an NIH-sponsored Center for Clinical and Translational Science provide unique and comprehensive resources for biomedical engineering research and education at Ohio State.
