Summary of Postion:

The Network Administrator I role handles the day-to-day operations of the network infrastructure and connectivity between locations. This role will include the monitoring and troubleshooting of all aspects of the network. This position will work with the server and security teams as necessary to ensure proper network connectivity to all systems. This position will also be responsible for the routine maintenance of the network including patching, security hardening, asset management, and installation or decommissioning of equipment. This position will take direction from the Network Engineering and Network Architect roles around designs, debugging, and resolution of items as they arise.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems
  • Monitor network performance and integrity by managing key performance indicators defined by the business
  • Manage and maintain a national network of circuits and phone equipment as first level of support
  • Manage and maintain firewalls, routers, switches, and other networking devices
  • Helps maintain proper configuration and use of network monitoring systems
  • Manage and maintain VOIP equipment and environment from end to end
  • Monitoring and management of Cisco Prime, Cisco FMC/FTD, Cisco Tacacs, Cisco ISRs, and Cisco Meraki, and Ubiquiti equipment
  • Follow proper change management processes and escalation procedures
  • Monitor/Resolve network related incidents via the incident management system
  • Ensure customers receive prompt, accurate and courteous service
  • Engage vendors and carriers as required to assist in troubleshooting or implementation of network solutions
  • Assist in the development of documentation, diagrams, and knowledge articles for use by the department
  • Assist other team members with projects and technology rollouts
  • Some travel to locations for installations, upgrades, or major projects
  • Other duties as assigned

  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours (including some weekends and holidays) in response to critical, business-impacting situations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT field and/or equivalent experience
  • Professional Certification(s) (CCNP, CCDP, etc.)
  • Working experience with Cisco IOS devices including configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Working experience in monitoring and troubleshooting enterprise business and large-scale LAN/WAN environments including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in various network technologies, services, and protocols that are typical of a large enterprise network including BGP, MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, VPLS, and QoS
  • Knowledge of carrier-based technologies such as TDM, MPLS, VPLS and OC level circuits
  • Working experience with Wireless Control Systems, access points, and 802.1x, PKI, EAP, TLS technologies
  • Ability to simplify and effectively communicate (oral and written) complex ideas and principles to technical and non-technical individuals
  • Working experience following a change control process and incident management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to manage work priorities and time management to achieve them in a timely manner
  • Ability to work solo on daily tasks and minor projects
  • Network cabling organization skills, rack management, ability to make organized cabling from point to point
  • Excellent organization skills including the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment.

Optional skill sets given additional consideration:

  • Non-Cisco related certifications
  • Cabling and/or Datacenter certifications or experience
  • Bash, PowerShell, or VB scripting experience
  • Solarwinds/Nagios/Centreon monitoring software experience

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 70%
  • Frequently, will move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic office machinery
  • Must be able to lift up to chest height 80 lbs. occasionally when installing and deinstalling network equipment from datacenters while following basic OSHA datacenter guidelines
  • Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly working in office environment
  • Must be able to travel with minimal advance notice
  • Must be comfortable working in the elements and at various heights
  • Some travel required for site visits and events
