The Reed Union School District (RUSD) is an elementary district serving the southern Marin communities of Belvedere, Tiburon, and a portion of east Corte Madera. Its three school sites are located in Tiburon: Reed School - Transitional Kindergarten through second grade; Bel Aire School - grades 3, 4 and 5; and Del Mar Middle School - grades 6, 7 and 8. District enrollment is approximately 1,150 students, with class size averaging typically 23-24 students. RUSD graduates attend high school in the Tamalpais Union High School District, as well as private schools in Marin County and San Francisco.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Teacher

Overview

This is a certificated teaching position that provides direct instruction to students and works closely with the site staff and support personnel in delivery of services. Daily interactions include work with children, parents, coworkers and administrators to ensure the high academic performance and achievement of all students. The teacher reports to the school site administrator.

I. Duties and Responsibilities a. Performs all requirements of the Standards for the Teaching Profession b. Establishes rapport, provides a suitable environment and utilizes strategies to promote student performance c. Participates in keeping records, observations, and evaluation of student progress d. Develops goals, objectives and appropriate teaching methods to meet individual student needs e. Provides written reports and assessments f. Assumes primary responsibility for contacting and consulting with parents about the student, program and progress g. Evaluates pupil progress on a regular basis and revises instructional plans as appropriate h. Attends and participates as team member of I.E.P. or Student Success

Team meetings i. Implements a program that provides continuity and consistency for students j. Utilizes strategies to promote students’ responsibility and respect for others k. Establishes and maintains standards and procedures which promote an effective and positive learning environment l. Assists in implementation of positive school wide behavior support systems m. Schedules individual conferences with students and their parents/guardians to develop strategies and goals for addressing student needs n. Participates in Professional Learning Communities focused on student learning and college and career readiness o. Maintains a proactive and positive relationship with students, staff, parents and community members p. Participates in instructional planning and curriculum implementation

q. Ensures words, actions and duties support an inclusive environment for all students, adults and community members, where equity is paramount r. Performs other related duties as assigned

II. Knowledge and Abilities a. Communicates effectively in written and verbal forms b. Inspires curiosity and provides students opportunities to persevere c. Conducts oneself with professionalism and dignity d. Cultivates meaningful relationships with staff, students, families, colleagues and community members e. Utilizes effective classroom management strategies f. Uses technology in meaningful ways in the classroom to further instruction and learning g. Demonstrates support of school safety, student achievement and equity h. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a highly involved and supportive parent community i. Demonstrates enthusiasm to support teachers, students and staff

III. Qualifications a. Valid California Teaching Credential b. Bachelor’s Degree required c. CLAD certification

IV. Working Conditions

Environment: Indoor and outdoor instructional environments

Physical Abilities: Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to monitor students; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment; bending at the waist to assist students; kneeling or crouching; ability to stand for long periods; ability to walk long distances; perform lifting, pushing and/or pulling which does not exceed 25 pounds; is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Hazards: Exposure to climatic elements and noise; potential for contact with blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases; frequent interruptions.
