Job Summary As a Mental Health Technician 1, you will assist in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. To help achieve our mission, you will communicate and collaborate with care team members in implementing a plan of care to meet individualized and developmental patient care outcomes. Your ability to partner with the Registered Nurse to create a professional development plan to provide team members with the necessary skills to deliver up to date patient care is of vital importance. Utilizing information to continuously improve patient care and practice to enhance outcomes is required.

- Communicates patients' progress toward desired outcomes and changes to the Registered Nurse.
- Monitors patients/their environment and intervenes appropriately to promote a safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Identifies own learning needs/goals based on timely self-evaluation. Makes progress/meets goals set from the previous year.
- Completes forms and flow sheets accurately according to policies and procedures. Reinforces transition/discharge teaching and home care skills (e.g. reinforces and models healthy behaviors, empowers patient to develop safety plan).
- Describes the unit's quality improvement activities, trends and goals. Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives and reports variances in practice in accordance with Inova Health System policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates competency in all required clinical skills and technologies (e.g. safety observations (Q15", 1:1), sharps maintenance, search and disposition of patient belongings, de-escalation and crisis prevention).
- Provides information to patients, families and visitors (e.g. orients patient to the unit and program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions, provides printed information).
- Provides basic activities of daily living nursing care (i.e. bathing, feeding, hygiene, toileting, ambulating) while monitoring activity, sleep and intake/output.
