Hornbacher's, a member of the Coborn's, Inc. family of stores, is immediately hiring for a Meat Cutter to join our team! The purpose of this position is to consistently meet assigned daily production requirements and ensuring that meat preparation is consistently in accordance with Hornbacher’s food safety standards and procedures, in addition to providing a positive shopping experience for customers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assists customers during their shopping experience

  • Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
  • Bring customers to the location of product
  • Assist with product substitutions
  • Perform price checks

Functional Requirement:

  • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (intercom, telephone, scanner, register, scale)
  • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

Maintaining a neat and organized store appearance

  • Ensures floors are clear of debris at all times
  • Cleaning equipment, shelves, cases, and racking according to cleaning schedule
  • Compacts cardboard, stacks pallets, stores and organizes overstock
  • Maintains the eye-appeal of the department
  • Breaking down loads and dating product

Functional Requirement:

  • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (cardboard baler, garbage compactor, box cutter, pallet jack, shopping cart, ladder, knives, wrappers, scales)
  • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately -20F - 35F while handling products in freezers, coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
  • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

Maintaining proper inventory levels on the sales floor

  • Ability to recognize, cut, grind, slice, and tenderize all varieties of fresh meat
  • Perform meat cutting and preparation as assigned
  • Ensures correct placement of product
  • Rotates and discards product following Hornbacher’s policy
  • Handles product carefully to avoid damage
  • Follows safe food handling and preparation processes
  • Builds and maintains product displays
  • Wrap, weight, price, and label meat and seafood product
  • Maintains proper records as assigned by the Supervisor

JOB COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Attention to detail

  • Checking meat and seafood for the highest quality
  • Perform meat cutting and preparation
  • Properly wrap, weigh, price, and label meat and seafood product
  • Ensures proper signage of product
  • Restocks and faces throughout the day
  • Verifying orders against invoices
  • Maintains cleanliness and eye-appeal of sales floor and back room
  • Maintain knowledge of product movement and specials

Communication skills

  • Ability to Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
  • Ability to receive feedback and implement processes for improvement
  • Ability to follow directions from the Meat Department Manager
  • Reporting any shortages and spoiled or damaged product to the Meat Department Manager

Time management skills

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks without direct supervision in a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on customer and business needs

Experience

  • Meat cutting experience preferred
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts; including nights, weekends, & holidays.
