Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Industrial Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Aerospace Structures Business Unit.

This leadership role is located in Clearfield, Utah, with expected travel up to 25%.


Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working side by side with Operations Directors/VPs/Customers by developing tools to help them achieve all business targets.
  • Management of the Commercial Industrial Engineering department at geographically diverse Utah-based manufacturing sites.
  • Sourcing key engineering and technical talent to ensure success of the Business Unit goals.
  • Oversight of the team accountable for integration and utilization of common facilities, capacity analysis, integration of resources and implementation of improvement initiatives across the Business Unit
  • Working in concert with other functional homerooms and shared service organizations to coordinate, direct, and support the continuous improvement of people, products, processes, systems and services.
  • Oversight of projects and tasks assigned to the cross-functional ASBU organization and providing direction to ensure quality, schedule and cost are achieved.
  • Providing direct supervision and management of employees from technical, manufacturing, and administrative areas to ensure business targets are met.
  • Creating long range planning & strategies for the operations team (e.g.: staffing forecasting, rate change planning, execution strategy of new initiatives, pull ahead strategies, line balancing assessments, EAC / Budget forecasting)
  • Partnering with site leadership to develop executive planning and strategic vision that help achieve sector goals & objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of related professional/military experience in industrial engineering and a high production environment, OR a Master’s degree and 7 years of related professional/military experience in industrial engineering and a high production environment, OR an additional 4 years of related professional/military experience in industrial engineering and high rate production environment may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 4 years of leadership experience with direct reports
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement and/or Lean initiatives resulting in cost savings/cost avoidance greater than $5M (results can be calculated in schedule avoidance)
  • Proven project and leadership experience.
  • Earned Value Management and EAC experience.
  • Experience implementing and deploying Shop Floor Control (SFC) systems for various lifecycles of manufacturing products
  • Proficient in Costpoint, SAP or another ERP/MRP system, Microsoft Excel, and Data Analytics
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company to meet its business need


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience in piece-parts assembly
  • Experience as a Master Production Scheduler, accountable for developing Shop Operating Plans (SOPs)
  • Demonstrated work experience leading and building diverse teams in fast-paced, quality-centric environments
  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 8 years of experience in Industrial Engineering in aerospace high production environments
  • Experience with multiple program environments utilizing common infrastructure and facilities
  • Proven experience in composite lay-up and cure processes, testing, machining methods, precision bonding and assembly processes
  • Experience and expertise with SFC systems and MES/SAP environments within aerospace for both fabrication and final assembly
  • Experience with Project Management and the execution of large scale, integrated projects across multiple functions and organizations
  • Experience working on a DoD/PAR Manufacturing program

Salary Range: $105,600 USD - $158,400 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
