Position Description

The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) is seeking Program Manager to support a five-year federal grant program to implement a strong and responsive public health system that is focused on development of knowledge, crosscutting skills, and institutionalization of capacities that bolster the Foundational Capabilities that directly impact community health and well-being. This grant is housed in the Bureau of Health Equity but has cross divisional programs and projects. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating with existing efforts within the Health Equity Bureau and across related divisional projects, performing evaluation of key outputs and outcomes. The role also provides oversight of efforts to translate data into practice and data into policy development and for quality improvement. The position coordinates various activities within a departmental division and assists in providing input for policy evaluation and data collection to evaluate effectiveness of grant efforts.


Typical Duties

  • Acts a strategic partner with the Bureau Director and Grant Project Director in the design and implementation of the grant related agenda, and goals.
  • Acts a strategic partner with the Bureau Director and Grant Project Director in the creation, implementation, and management of programs in collaboration with internal and external partners Provides supervision and technical assistance to cross-divisional partners on the execution of project tasks outlined by the grant; including, but not limited to, effective creation and management of timelines, budgets, resources, risks, and grant objectives.
  • Researches and translates examples and lessons learned from other communities nationally.
  • Measures and tracks progress toward goals to evaluate grant performance and provide feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in grant team meetings and grant cross-divisional quarterly meetings Supports management of grant external contract processes.
  • Identifies opportunities to disseminate grant work and collaborate with other national grantees.
  • Maintains frequent communication with the Grant Director and Bureau Director to report status updates and progress on all projects and initiatives.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a (4) four-year college or university and three (3) years of responsible, full-time employment in public health administration, public health sanitation, public health nursing, public health education, business administration or other appropriate field.

OR

Graduation from an accredited Master's degree program in public health or administrative field.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Graduate-level degree in public health, health administration, education, policy, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of disparities in health status and systemic, structural, and environmental inequities.
  • Expertise in health equity and the social determinants of health frameworks; experience gathering and using cross-sectional health equity data and metrics; and strong understanding of the intersectionality of social categorizations and their relationship to health inequities.
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives, including tasks such as analysis of complex issues, change management, developing quality improvement strategies and ensuring alignment of a work plan to the work product.
  • Knowledge of managerial and administrative principles and practices..
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate programs and to measure their effectiveness.
  • Ability to implement program changes in an efficient manner..
  • Ability to monitor and analyze activities.
  • Ability to write letters and/or statistical/analytical reports.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and write detailed reports.
