Job description

Qualified candidate primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations within the propagation facility. Grower is involved with irrigation, fertilizing, transplanting, scouting, substrate testing, winterization greenhouse structural work. Organize and prioritize the workday and anticipate activities based on weather, chemical applications, or production activities. Involved with various forms of irrigation and horticultural protocols. Monitor and understand optimum environments for the rooting of cuttings and plants. Setup, establish, organize, evaluate trials - work with other growers about the specific care needs of research being conducted. Setup, program and work with technology, computers, and robotics within the department. Be able to cooperate and work with others and have the willingness to learn and contribute to a positive teamwork-based environment. Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holiday duty. Monitor and control misting of each variety during propagation process. Keep coworkers informed on crop notes. Attend interdepartmental meetings as needed. Conduct regular substrate and media tests insuring optimum growth Scout all greenhouses for pests and diseases. Record findings for the USDA program and recommend action or control. Other duties as assigned.

  • 2-year degree in Horticulture or an agricultural subject.
  • Strong background in horticulture, biology, or related area of plant sciences.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to a positive teamwork-based environment.
  • Knowledge, experience and/or comfort working with agricultural chemicals and fertilizer.
  • Must be able to do minor mechanical repairs.
  • Willingness to work overtime (evenings, weekends, holidays) as needed.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Bilingual in Spanish helpful.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and able to meet Company criteria for insurability.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must take and pass employer-paid post offer drug screen and background check.
