POSITION SUMMARY:

Working under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance, responds to a variety of maintenance requests with a main focus on painting. Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, or wire brushes. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife. Prepares paint and primers and matches colors.

Interacts professionally with all internal management, employees, Turning Point individuals, as well as retail/wholesale vendors and the general public.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
  • Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster)
  • Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture
  • Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools
  • Adheres to all health and safety precautions
  • Responds in a timely fashion to all assigned maintenance work requests. Contacts the Director of Facilities and Maintenance regarding the need for an outside vendor to assist in the completion of an assigned work request. Operates hand and power tools/equipment, as required. Cleans up work area
  • Picks up and delivers supplies and materials for assigned work, as directed
  • Travels to assigned program(s) located within either the Merrimack Valley and/or North Shore, MA to perform assigned work or to conduct periodic service requests, as assigned
  • Interacts professionally with all internal management and employees, as well as retail/wholesale vendors and the general public
  • Assists in the assembly, installation and moving of office/program furniture and equipment, as directed
  • Provides hands on maintenance and/or facilities assignments for special projects, as requested by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance
  • Interacts respectfully with the individuals residing in Turning Point, Inc. programs
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Trade school or related high school education
  • 1+ years residential and/or commercial painting experience
  • Hands on repair and maintenance experience for all phases of residential facilities and maintenance work, including a computer-based work request system is required
  • Thorough knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing systems, as well as operation of basic power tools and equipment is required. An understanding of safe work and driving practices/procedures are necessary
  • Effective communication in order to understand and perform assigned work in a timely, courteous manner and to convey information with all internal/external contacts, as well as the Director of Facilities and Maintenance
  • Ability to receive instructions from the Director of Facilities and Maintenance, and take the appropriate actions while working as a team with all persons to perform assigned work
  • Must be able to interact with a wide variety of people and situations calmly, professionally, and confidentially
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adapting to frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
  • Must possess the strength and stamina to operated basic hand and power tools/equipment, drive a motor vehicle or van, lift and move materials, equipment, furniture up to 100 pounds, as well as heavier equipment to perform job duties
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Position will require minimal sitting, moderate and frequent standing/walking and daily driving to job sites and to run errands. Heavy lifting/pushing up to and in excess of 100 pounds is also required. Exposure to extreme heat or cold, lubricating fluids, cleaning solvents, batteries, use of eye protection and ear plugs, when required.
  • On a weekly basis, the approximate standards include the following and are dependent on required workload:
  • Sitting 10%
  • Standing/Walking: 25% or more
  • Lifting: 30% or more
  • Twist/Turn/Squat: 15% or more
  • Forearm Rotation: 15% or more
  • Transportation: Daily, as needed depending on responsibilities
