Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill a current General Clerk IV (P12) vacancy.


About this Position :

This is senior-level advanced clerical work. Incumbents in this class are responsible for performing the more complex and advanced clerical assignments. Responsibilities may include leading and training subordinate clerical personnel in the performance of a variety of clerical functions within the BOA Division. This is a full-performance administrative support position with various duties and responsibilities. Work requires knowledge of Personnel Law, general orders, and departmental policies and regulations. This position requires the ability to communicate well with others.

Accountability Statement :
The incumbent must meet and maintain the training standards set forth by the Prince George’s County Police Department. The incumbent shall not disseminate confidential information, administrative or operational unless expressly authorized. Confidential information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Police Department), except for work-related reasons, under terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act. The incumbent in this position is deemed “essential personnel” and is subject to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate.

Examples of Work

What You'll Do:


  • Responds to public records request and facilitating the disbursement of audio/video multimedia.
  • Acts as an information resource person for all individuals, both by telephone and in person.
  • Ensures dissemination of audio/video media to authorize individuals.
  • Prepares video evidence for police investigators, SAO, and other county, state and federal agencies as needed for court and/or administrative presentations.
  • Develops and uses creative strategies to respond to law enforcement, social and environmental concerns.
  • Acts as the public's liaison in coordinating government services and resources for resolving issues.
  • Receives and sends/disseminates information to appropriate personnel/locations using the electronic mail system.
  • Ensure files are properly uploaded and maintained, expunged, and purged per county and state retention policy.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties that may not be specifically listed in position description but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work

Qualifications

What You'll Need:
Must have experience at the General Clerk III level equal to the length of the probationary period; or six (6) months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks and one (1) year of education above the high school level which includes coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration. Any equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience will also be accepted.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate:

  • May be assigned shift work (days/evenings/weekends/holidays).
  • Must pass a drug screening.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • This is an essential position. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate. Essential employees are expected to report to work or remain at work when other County employees are granted administrative leave.

Duration of Eligibility:

Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
