Monitors nutritious USDA approved meals served to children in daycare. High caseloads of homes and centers. Perform home and center health and safety inspections, Check posted toddler and infant menu, attendance an meal count during reviews. Trains providers in their territory after initial sign-up. Follow up reviews as needed. Household contacts when necessary
Job Description for A & O Compliance Monitoring
Alpha & Omega Nutrition Program, Incorporated. Compliance monitor provides the link
between the childcare provider and the organization. Your duties are varied and require
extensive program knowledge and considerable judgment. Decisions are made that affect a
childcare provider’s ability to participate, reimbursement and compliance with program regulations and requirements.
Major Activities of Compliance Monitor:
Travel, Training and Technical Assistance
Duties:
- Travel to each sponsored home and center to monitor meal during approved mealtimes
- Provides on-site ongoing training on CACFP policies and procedures and Nutritional requirements
- Ongoing evaluation of provider training needs
- Implements training and documents the training as necessary
- Ongoing technical assistance
- Adapts training to individual needs of providers o based on education levels and learning styles
- Ensures providers have knowledge of program requirements in order to be successful
- Documentation of all training and technical assistance in CACFP file/MM
Necessary skills and knowledge:
- Nutrition Knowledge and CACFP program requirements, Federal Regulations, State Agency Policy, FNS and TDHS CACFP. Policy and Procedures
- Knowledge of basic nutrition for children and meal patterns
- Ability to analyze and determine necessary corrective action if needed
- Ability to utilize soft but effective communication kill both verbally and in writing, with
individually and in group settings
- Ability to adhere to policies and ensure participants compliance
- Ability to track training needs and outcomes of training
Monitoring Compliance with CACFP Rules and Regulations
Duties: Maintaining Confidentiality is key
- Prepares for the on-site visits by checking records of claiming patterns and problems
identified at previous visits
- Follows sponsoring organizations review schedule and ensures all reviews are done in
compliance with State and Federal time frames
- Reviews performance of providers at on site reviews (travel to all sites)
- Monitoring monthly menu, attendance and meal count
- Completes all aspects of the on-site review in accordance with Federal guidelines, State and CNP Policy and documents accordingly
- Complete Meal types and times, Meal components, Meal counts, Menu review and paperwork documentation, 5-day reconciliation, Enrollment verification, Tiering review/ or free and reduced priced apps., CACFP expenses (Daycare Centers and At-Risk after school care sites)
- Ensures foods are prepared and served following food safety guidelines and quality
standards
- Provides menu suggestions to encourage variety in foods and preparation methods that
are consistent with healthy practices
- Provide resource materials for menus, recipes, and meal planning
- Reviews and documents the content of the entire review. Corrective action if identified is
documented and follow up action is planned
- Menu concerns are documented in CACFP file/MM, and in monitors notebook for follow-
up
Necessary skills and knowledge:
- Knows observation techniques that identify potential problems associated with the food
and nutrition programs as well as other conditions that pose a potential threat to child
safety
- Knows procedures for conducting cross checks for verification of attendance and meal
counts
- Knows the importance of documenting results of onsite reviews especially when problems
are identified
- Knows appropriate reporting procedures when signs of abuse or neglect are observed or
suspected.
- Knows CACFP meal component requirements and menu modification for special needs
- Understands basic food safety requirements
- Understands infant meal pattern and the introduction of solid foods
Miscellaneous administrative duties:
- Ensuring records are maintained properly
- Running necessary reports from Minute Menu
- Checking messages and returning phone calls and emails
- General caseload management
- Working with supervisor to seek clarification when needed
- Update files annually to ensure current information is available
- File all required documents appropriately
- Demonstrate proficiency in data analysis including manually, reviewing, editing and
processing claims for reimbursement with extraordinary attention to deals for each
program component in a systematic order (alphabetically)
- Contact provider for any missing information needed to complete file or process claims
(always providing a timetable for requests)
Alpha & Omega Nutrition Program Incorporated monitors has a caseload of about 50-150
childcare sites that they oversee. Monitors may travel about 150 to 400 miles per month in a
two to three county area. We pay .46 cents per mile (PY2022-2023)-. Monitor are required to provide their own transportation, have a valid TN driver’s license and insurance
- Conducts a meal monitor visits within (4 weeks/28 days) of a new providers’
participation in CACFP.
- Reviews menus for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensures CACFP enrollments are current for all participants.
- Maintains current and accurate database of all participants in CACFP for each provider.
- Tracks home visits to ensure all providers on caseload receive 3 visits within their
eligibility period.
- Monitors and maintains data for an assigned caseload of providers receiving payment
from the information and payment system (TIPS).
- Have knowledge about child and adult care food program information and software
system (Minute Menu) AND the ability to train
- Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading,
workshops, seminars, conferences, zoom meetings and state trainings
- Participate in all annual CACFP training for all providers. Ensures all providers receive
training during reviews, if necessary.
- Flexible work schedule maybe weekend work during the 1st weekend of each month only
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, however Associate or Bachelor’ degree preferred in Nutrition,
Community Health, Human Services or related field. (CDL) Child Development
Associates
- Must have basic mathematics/quantitative abilities.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in an early childhood setting.
- Knowledge of the Daycare industry
- Ability to recruit new sites
- Basic competency in Microsoft Office for Windows application is required.
- Must be able to read, write and converse clearly in English.
- Exhibits efficient SOFT communication skills with childcare providers, families, support
agencies and staff.
Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgments/decisions.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
