The City of West Plains, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Fleet Maintenance Mechanic. This is a full-time, non-exempt position consisting of 40 hours per week.

The Shop Mechanic vehicle and equipment work to assist in maintaining the fleet of vehicles (e.g., cars for administrative personnel, specially equipped vehicles for Police and Fire Department personnel, heavy construction equipment for Public Works, etc.); changes oil and oil filters on vehicles; servicing of lubricant and fluid levels, component wear inspection, systems testing, completes small engine repairs; fixes flat tires and lighting problems. Service vehicles and equipment as needed at garages and at off-site locations as needed; and performs other duties as assigned.

This is a physically demanding position working indoors and outdoors, exposed to adverse temperatures and weather conditions. Frequent exposure to greases, oils, solvents, fumes, and work in and around moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. at times. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle on a daily basis. The work involves repetitive work of a mechanical nature with regular occurrences of bending, stooping, and standing, including the need to move and lift heavy objects. Involves walking, sitting, standing, climbing, stooping crawling, kneeling, stretching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling on even or uneven surfaces on a continuous basis required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· High School diploma, GED or equivalent. Associate degree is preferred.

· Six (6) months training or experience in mechanics, maintenance management, or closely related field.

· Possess and maintain a valid CDL – Class B with airbrake and tanker endorsement throughout employment and meet the requirements of the City of West Plains Operation of Vehicles Policy, or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

· The Shop Mechanic has a salary range of $17.46 to $24.35 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
