Job Summary

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Facilities Management is seeking a multitasking self-starter to join the O&M Operations team as a Facilities Technician I or a Facilities Technician II. There is one vacancy open for the Eastern Virginia/ North Carolina Region which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate(s) education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. Only candidates living within a 60-mile radius to the east, west, north of Chesapeake Virginia and candidates living up to 80 miles south of Chesapeake will be considered for this regions position. This position can be based out of Williamsburg, Hampton,Chuckatuck, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Elizabeth City, Ahoskie, Kitty Hawk, Williamston, or Roanoke Rapids.

Chosen candidate will:

  • Be responsible for troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building systems in all offices located in the Eastern Virginia and North Carolina regions which includes; Williamsburg, Hampton, Chuckatuck, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Elizabeth City, Ahoskie, Kitty Hawk,Williamston, and Roanoke Rapids.
  • Assist with evaluating building and equipment conditions to provide leadership with repair solutions or improvement recommendations.
  • Manage external vendors to ensure compliance with internal policies, OSHA regulations, and federal, state, or local code requirements.
  • Perform all preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance work orders, to ensure optimum building and equipment operation.
  • Plan, organize, and order building materials for building renovations and maintenance projects.
  • Complete or Assist in periodic testing, inspection, and maintenance to life safety systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to building maintenance staff in equipment maintenance, building control systems, and maintenance procedures.
  • Plan and coordinate office renovations, interdepartmental relocations, and projects as assigned.
  • Work independently or in a team environment.
  • Maintain multiple facilities across a large geographic territory.
  • Work overtime and respond to afterhours emergencies when necessary.
  • Build strong partnerships with peers, internal customers, and external vendors.

Please note: This role requires primarily day travel. Overnight travel is only 1 to 2% of the travel involved.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Facilities Technician II will require:

  • 5 - 7 years directly related experience. A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.
  • Must be comfortable with completing timesheets in an accurate and timely manner as well as be able to manage a company credit card and complete associated expense reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • In-depth and expert knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • In-depth and expert knowledge of plumbing and building construction.
  • Ability to perform carpentry, flooring, electrical, and plumbing repair and replacement activities.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems in commercial buildings.
  • Must be able to maintain, troubleshoot and install equipment from blueprints, circuit diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a variety of diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and the ability to use SAP, Microsoft products, and computer operated maintenance equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communications.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and environmental standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze building and maintenance conditions and develop solutions or recommendations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, technical drawings, and manuals.
  • Ability to lead maintenance staff.

Facilities Technician I will require:

  • 1+ years directly related experience. A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.
  • Must be comfortable with completing timesheets in an accurate and timely manner as well as be able to manage a company credit card and complete associated expense reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to perform assignments designed to develop work knowledge, skills and abilities requiring application of policies, procedures, techniques and other criteria in carrying out all aspects of the job
  • Ability to perform routine work assignments but over time will demonstrate the ability to perform more difficult work assignments
  • Ability to work under established policies and procedures to meet set schedules and system or program requirements
  • Ability to perform carpentry, flooring, electrical, and plumbing repair and replacement activities.
  • Must possess the desire to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to reach a higher level of proficiency and work complexity
  • Familiarity with blueprints, work orders, technical drawings, and manuals preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and the ability to use SAP, Microsoft products, and computer operated maintenance equipment.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Associate

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Experience and License as Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, HVAC Mechanic or Certified Building Mechanic preferred. Prefer that candidate have or be willing to obtain EPA Certification - Type I, II, III (Universal) and R-410A Certification.
