5+ Year Estate Planning Attorney Position

CunninghamLegal seeks an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join our team in our Pasadena Office. The primary responsibility of this role is:

• Meet with returning clients and potential new clients concerning estate planning and other related matters
• Estate plans range from “foundational” revocable living trust plans to typical irrevocable trusts used for higher net worth individuals (ILIT, IDGT, Gifting/Dynasty, SLAT, BDIT)
• Plans may also include the creation of and maintenance of one or more LLCs, Partnerships, or Corporations.
• Collaborate with other Lawyers, Paralegals, and Administrative Assistants following our established and written workflow processes, as a team, to create estate plans for clients
• Use of WealthDocx, Abacus Law, Asana, Office365, Lexis, and CEB Online.

We are seeking candidates with 5+ Years of Estate Planning experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of applicable laws, taxes, and regulations as well as California real property taxation. The successful candidate will also possess excellent communication skills, as they will be required to work collaboratively with the firm’s other attorneys, paralegals, administrative staff, as well as clients.

Our estate planning team emphasizes a “team” approach to estate planning; our processes and client work are internally “peer” reviewed to ensure quality and accuracy.

A typical workday includes meeting with one or more clients, drafting or reviewing one or two foundational estate plans, and work on “advanced planning” matters (such as advising clients on the creation of irrevocable trusts, gifting, LLCs, partnerships, and corporations). Our firm has approved Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses and you will attend several continuing education functions throughout the year to maintain your expertise. This position is the leader in the Pasadena Office and supervises one or two paralegals, and one or two administrative staff. Depending on experience, the position may also supervise one or more estate planning attorneys.

Key Responsibilities:

• Counsel clients, draft and analyze simple and complex estate planning documents and plans, including wills, trusts, insurance trusts, “defective” grantor trusts, and family LLCs, to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
• Ensure that the plans have been adequately communicated to the clients
• Collaborate with the firm’s other attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure the timely completion of estate planning projects
• Advise clients on their estate planning matters and provide cutting-edge legal guidance regarding estate planning strategies
• Stay up-to-date with changes in estate planning laws and regulations and ensure compliance with new legislation
• Conduct legal research related to estate planning issues as needed

Compensation:

• $130,000 to $192,000, depending on experience.
