JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
We are looking to source multiple engineering disciplines (Civil, Substation Design, Protection and Control, Settings, TLINE and DLINE designers) within the Project Delivery Engineering organization which has responsibility to provide a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Project and Power Delivery organization related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management, construction, and operations. These positions support all (5) operating companies (Entergy Arkansas, Entergy Mississippi, Entergy Texas, Entergy Louisiana, and Entergy New Orleans. The position is hybrid that may be domiciled (pending on qualifications) in the following locations: Little Rock, AR; Monroe, LA; Jackson, MS; The Woodlands, TX; Baton Rouge, LA; and New Orleans, LA.

Our engineering staff works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines and team members to achieve stated project goals. All engineering disciplines use engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.

Focus area varies between each discipline and the following is a high-level summary for each discipline:

Transmission Line Engineer:
This position is responsible for the design of transmission lines: routing, permitting, dynamic monitoring, optimizing, structure spotting, conductor selection, fiber optic utilization, joint attachments, and foundations

Distribution Line Engineer (Utility):
This position will support efforts associated with Grid Modernization deployment initiatives. Engineer positions will support distribution design/engineering of projects being implemented across the 5 Entergy operating companies. This will include all detailed scoping, engineering and design activities from projects initiated by Asset Management, Distribution Planning, Distribution Automation and Grid Modernization initiatives.

Relay Settings Engineer:
Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction and operations, activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Relay Protection and Control Engineer:
Provides protection and control design engineering services for transmission and distribution substations, along with technical guidance and support to asset management and capital projects teams. The engineer would need to communicate and work well with multiple discipline teams to ensure project goals are met. He or she would be required to help technicians work through and trouble shoot AC power circuits, DC control circuits, and relay control logic problems.

Substation Design Engineer:
Performs a wide variety of planning, maintenance, design engineering, project management and construction and operations, activities related to routine, non-routine, and emergency restoration duties. Project areas may include grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

Civil/Structural Engineer:
The Civil/Structural Engineer in Substation Design within Transmission Engineering works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines and team members to achieve stated project goals. The Civil/Structural Engineer focuses primarily on the planning, scoping, estimating, and design of civil and structural elements and activities.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (All Disciplines):
  • Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Project and Power Delivery organization related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations.
  • Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve probelms, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
  • Works with other disciplines within the Project Delivery and Power Delivery organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.
  • Develop detailed scoping and engineering plans for projects
  • Review and perform quality assurance for design deliverables (internal and external design).
  • Assist with the required changed management and roll out of new program development.
  • Participate in industry technical knowledge sharing and best practices sharing meetings with peer utilities.
  • Provide engineering expertise to respond to regulatory bodies.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning of Transmission and Distribution assets.
  • Work with Design Basis and industry committees to develop and maintain engineering specific disciplines.
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (Transmission Line Engineer):
  • this position is responsible for the design of transmission lines: routing, permitting, dynamic monitoring, optimizing, structure spotting, conductor selection, fiber optic utilization, joint attachments, and foundations.
  • Applicant will work in a team environment and be responsible for defining scopes, estimating costs, producing full construction packages, analyzing line clearances, and attending on-site project meetings.
  • Applicant will also interface with other Entergy Groups including Substation, Distribution, Marketing, Project Management, Asset Management, Environmental personnel, Configuration Management personnel, as well as external customers.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (Distribution Line Engineer):
  • Ensuring adherence to Grid Modernization standard develop Scoping/Design/Engineering.
  • Assist Right of Way group to secure permitting on an as needed basis
  • Assist distribution automation organization in implementing smart devices associated with Grid Mod Projects

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (Relay Protection Control Engineer):
  • Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis, project scoping, cost estimation, specification/procurement of relay equipment and prepare IFA/IFC design packages for construction.
  • Works collectively with multiple groups across different disciplines to support project needs. These groups consist of project management, construction, SCADA modelers, RTU configuration, telecom transport, data networking, relay settings, substation electrical/civil designers, planning, asset management, and third-party entities that connect to the Entergy Grid.
  • Provides engineering and technical support to Area Substation Supervisors in the group’s day to day performance of diagnostic and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (Substation Design Engineer):
  • Perform engineering activities associated with the physical design of high voltage utility substations, including: developing the site and buswork layouts, grounding, foundations, equipment drawings, etc. for internal substation related projects.
  • Perform various substation design related analyses including substation ground grid analysis, lightning protection analysis and bus fault analysis
  • Specify devices and equipment to be used in the design and construction of substation assets.
  • Order and track the substation material and ensure timely delivery to appropriate staging areas.
  • Oversee substation design contractor activities and perform thorough quality reviews of their design packages

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES (Civil/Structural Engineer):
These activities include but are not limited to:
  • Order and utilize topographic property surveys
  • Order and utilize geotechnical studies
  • Order and utilize drainage/flood studies
  • Design site grading & drainage plans, sections, and details for site packages
  • Design foundation details based on structure reactions
  • Calculate structure load reactions and design modifications to meet load requirements
  • Design steel structure details
  • Work in conjunction with environmental teams to design oil containment (if applicable)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution.
  • Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
  • Preferred: Electrical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree.


Minimum Experience:
  • Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II: 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer III: 4+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer Sr: 6+ years of experience in an engineering discipline.
