The Director, of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) will develop a vision that leads to a zero safety-incident culture for LDI. The EHS Director will develop and implement a multi-year strategy to translate that vision into reality to improve current safety and environmental performance.


This position is responsible for the overall creation, development, and maintenance of effective EHS for the organization. It also defines, develops, and executes safety programs including training and OSHA compliance using a scorecard method.


Based in our New Hope, MN headquarters, this position develops and implements strategy, policy, processes, systems, and tactics to deliver world-class safety performance for all manufacturing sites and corporate locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all LDI employees and contractors to achieve zero safety and environmental incidents built on the principles of personal accountability, influencing behaviors, leading indicators and a culture of active employee engagement.
  • Facilitates and participates in the professional development of safety leaders in the organization through regular coaching, onboarding, training and feedback.
  • Coordinate with site leadership, site EHS managers and safety committees to ensure that all aspects of the company’s EHS results and programs are working in concert and that effective leadership is being exercised in each area. Lead and coach management to own site EHS.
  • Sets clear and measurable goals for safety performance; maintains detailed safety performance and incident data, analyzes trends, reports regularly on statistics, and ensures action plans are put in place and executed. Establishes consistent, effective processes for managing all near misses, hazard/accident investigations and reports.
  • Educate and inform others on up-to-date knowledge of regulations and codes relating to people safety, process safety, environmental compliance, security and fire/explosion protection.
  • Manage audit, inspection and corrective action programs to provide assurance that LDI facilities comply with all federal, state and local EHS regulatory This includes leading and performing onsite and virtual audits. Coordinate and interface with applicable external agencies including OSHA, State Environmental Agencies, law enforcement, and consultants.
  • Lead people and facility risk assessment and emergency response. Create a high performing culture of risk awareness. Ensure that risk assessment is inclusive of all people, security and facility risks.
  • Establish a sustaining Emergency Response Program (ERP) for all locations that is responsive, effective, and provides reliable coverage.
  • Establish and maintain security program that protects people, product and facilities from internal and external harm.
  • Direct company environmental sustainability efforts in a manner that promotes continuous improvement in reduction of the company environmental footprint.
  • Lead 3rd Party Vendor Electronic Platforms that are used for EHS monitoring, and reporting, etc., including coordinating user changes, system enhancements, training, and renewals.
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, industrial health and safety or a related field.
  • Minimum ten years of increasing safety and environmental responsibility in a manufacturing environment, including managing cross-functional teams, and operating at a senior level to drive results.
  • Five years of experience leading safety across multiple manufacturing facilities, both union, and non-union.
  • Applied knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations for the U.S. and Mexico.
  • Ability to effectively manage and delegate while achieving key results and deliverables.
  • Must be able to effectively read, write, and communicate in the English language, including strong presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade decision makers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50%

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in safety management, industrial health and safety or a related field.
  • Certified safety professional.
  • Strong mentoring, training and coaching to colleagues.
  • Business acumen, statistical and analysis skills including the ability to develop, implement and monitor metrics.
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work.
