GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, The Nursing Director of Inpatient Acute Care Services will be responsible for the quality assessment, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and standardization of hospital wide inpatient care. This role will create plans, organize and direct staff and control a wide range of operations and activities pertaining to nursing services and/or clinical care delivery in Boulder City Hospital Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Rehabilitation and Medical based swing bed units. This role will have impacts on the hospital’s care delivery models and revenue cycle. Some of these operational impacts including but not limited to, evaluation of patient care outcomes, medication administration, care management and assisting in examinations and treatments; provides daily direction and leadership to assigned staff; develops and administers new programs and services; participates in Hospital strategic development and planning processes; and performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As the leadership of the Medical Surgical and Transitional Rehabilitation and Medical departments, this position will perform responsible and moderately complex management-level duties by overseeing daily operations of the department for Boulder City Hospital. The role will serve as a member of the hospital’s management team and ensures that assigned programs, functions and operations conform to organizational goals and objectives. Duties include significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and procedures in assigned areas, as well as providing management support and advice to superiors. Assigned operations and functions primarily emphasize the administrative and financial aspects of the department expenses and/or revenue cycle impacts correlating to the Hospital’s and department’s budgets responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans, organizes, directs, staff to continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and seek to optimize outcome for the patient assigned to these 24 hour care units; ensures that assigned areas conform to hospital goals, objectives and requirements.

2. Plans, assigns, directs, and monitors the work of subordinate staff; develops and/or approves staff schedules; analyzes and distributes staff assignments and workloads; evaluates employee performance; recommends and implements employee disciplinary actions as appropriate; responds to grievances and complaints; initiates and coordinates staff selection and training processes; ensures that staff activities comply with organizational expectations.

3. Nursing Director of Inpatient Acute Care will play a key leadership role and participate in building and maintaining physician relationships, program development, customer satisfaction, budget preparation and execution, and work as appropriate with Marketing and Community Relations. The RN Director of Acute Care services will integrate with the organization’s operations, participate in performance improvement activities and ensure professional and regulatory compliance is achieved in all areas of responsibility.

4. Develops, recommends and implements quality control systems to ensure that assigned programs, services and activities are efficient, effective and in compliance with internal and external laws, policies and standards; develops systems pertaining to confidentiality, information security, safety, environmental/infection control,

Nursing Standards of Care or best practice consistent with inpatient acute and swing bed patients and other related areas.

5. Assists CNO with quality abstractions and submissions

6. Develops, recommends and implements courteous experience for patients; monitors and controls patient experience and quality indicators; ensures that appropriate results and other critical documents or needed equipment are available at the time of patient is treated.

7. Responds to concerns and/or complaints from patients, the public, Medical Staff, subordinates, and/or other hospital employees pertaining to assigned areas in order to maintain positive customer relations; researches and investigates issues; prepares written or oral responses as needed.

8. Coordinates service with Medical Staff and Case Management in order to maximum financial reimbursement can be obtained.

9. Represents assigned areas to other hospital affiliates, external agencies to coordinate activities, identify issues, resolve problems and share information; confers with hospital administrative, clinical and other personnel to resolve management and patient access issues. Participates in organizational strategic planning activities to ensure the delivery of comprehensive and coordinated health services; serves on committees and task forces to address specific issues and/or represent the department as assigned; attends meetings and conferences as assigned.

10. Conducts meetings and gives presentations.

11. Oversees the preparation and maintenance of documents and information in order to comply with administrative policies as well as CMS and other state or federal regulations.

Conducts special studies and projects as assigned; researches and analyzes information; prepares reports aand nd documents as needed.




12. May be required to give direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients,

LICENSE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • LICENSE: A current Nevada License as a Registered Nurse is required for a position.

  • In addition to the above requirement, a combination of experience, education and/or training is required which substantially demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and skills:

  • Principles and practice pertaining to direct patient care for swing bed, rehabilitative and medical care unit.

  • The medical, sociological, psychological, and environmental needs, problems, attitudes, and behavior of the targeted Medical/Surgical and Rehabilitation Nursing unit

  • Principles and practices of business administration, including personnel management, planning and organizing work, delegating authority, motivating subordinates, appraising performance and administering discipline.

  • The applicable laws, regulations, requirements, standards and practices pertaining to patient including the CMS requirements and standards.

  • Methods of quality control and quality improvement in a health care setting.

Working knowledge of:
  • Computer-based business applications.

  • Financial principles and procedures pertaining to budget development, monitoring and justification.

  • Standard patient care plans.

Some knowledge of:
  • Medical terminology, including common diseases, conditions and treatments.

  • Typical acute care hospital policies, procedures and routines.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Work evenings, weekends or holidays as needed.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING
The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through various types of experience, education or training, typically:
Experience
  • Equivalent to five years of increasingly responsible professional experience related to health care access or direct nursing services, including at least one year in an acute care hospital setting and at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Education/Training:
  • Completion of course work from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or a related field. Must be licensed Register Nurse in the state of Nevada. CPR and ACLS certification are required.
