Garden Spot Village, part of Garden Spot Communities, is currently seeking a Director of Activities.

Garden Spot Village, located in New Holland, PA, is a Retirement Community offering innovative options for residential living, and also wellness and healthcare services.

The Director of Activities will work in our Garden Spot Village Household department.

What will I do in this role with Garden Spot?

As a Director of Activities., supporting the Garden Spot Communities' mission will include the following responsibilities:

  • Complies with established policies and procedures and maintains established standards and practices including the Compliance Program/Code of Conduct.
  • Follows Residents' Rights policies at all times.
  • Attends all in-services and training sessions relevant to the position.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures and maintains established standards and practices.
  • Treats all information about residents and their conditions as confidential.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements a program of individual and group activities based on residents' schedule.
  • Provides education, assistance and mentoring to all household team members in the planning and implementing of leisure time activities.
  • Assesses and completes the sections of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Uses the resident assessment protocols (CAAs) to determine whether to proceed to care planning for concerns related to a resident's activity program needs.
  • Gathers data and documents required ancillary assessments including but not limited to resident assessment protocol summary documentation.
  • Identifies and documents in the resident's care plan, the activity interests, needs, and concerns of the resident.
  • Reviews and updates each resident's care plans, on at minimum, a quarterly basis.
  • Documents all interaction with a resident and/or family in the assessment, care plan and progress notes as required by federal and state requirements.
  • Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attends all resident care conferences.
  • Participates in nursing restorative and rehabilitative programs.
  • Plans and conducts Residents' Council meetings.
  • Plans and implements evening and weekend functions as necessary.
  • Takes part in in-service education programs and attends all in-service sessions relating to the Activity Program.
  • Recruits, schedules, and supervises assistants and volunteers.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements indoor and outdoor activity programs.

What do I need for this role with Garden Spot?

  • Must have at least two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which must have been full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting,
  • Must be certified as an ADC (Activity Director Certified).
  • Must have driver's license and be able to drive Garden Spot Village vehicles.
  • Must be available for weekends and evening work when necessary.
  • Must have strong writing and documentation skills.
  • Must be able to use a computer.
  • Must have language skills essential for leading groups.
  • Must have creativity, resourcefulness, and imagination.
