Job description

The Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda report was launched on 10 September 2021, pursuant to the mandate given to him by the General Assembly in the declaration on the commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations (A/RES/75/1)). The report contains some 90 proposals and recommendations, to be taken forward by UN Member States, the UN system, and partners. Many of these recommendations build on existing processes and/or mandates, including the Sustainable Development Goals, which will be maximized to the extent possible. However, Our Common Agenda also sets out a number of important recommendations and milestones in its own right across a wide array of substantive and thematic issues.

The report has been welcomed by the General Assembly (A/RES/76/6), and significant process of follow-up is now envisaged by UN Member States under the leadership of the President of the General Assembly, with the support of the UN system. Not least, this includes the organization of a high-level, multi-track, intergovernmental Summit of the Future, covering issues such as peace, digital cooperation, outer space, future generations, and major risks.

This position is located in the Our Common Agenda team in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General in New York and has a duration of 12 months. It will be focused on supporting data analytics, data management and strategic communications leading up to the Summit of the Future in particular and the overall follow-up to the Our Common Agenda report more broadly.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises across more than 31 countries, providing emergencies and long-term assistance to millions of people every year. We stand up for people forced to flee, advocating their rights. NORCAP, our global provider of expertise, helps improve international and local ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.

Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will never be able to take away all risks.

NRC is an equal opportunities employer and aims to have staffing diversity in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality and physical ability.

At NORCAP, we work to better protect and empower people affected by crises and climate change. With expertise in the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding sectors, we collaborate with local, national and international partners on finding solutions to meet the needs of people at risk. NORCAP is part of the Norwegian Refugee Council.
