Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking an anatomic pathologist to join our Translational Pathology team. The team consists of accomplished scientists, including several pathologists with a diverse array of experience and interests. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and strategic drug development teams as well as with research scientists who discover and develop treatments for disease. This position will be focused on solid tumor programmatic support. The focus of this work will be discovery, development, and implementation of biomarkers for pharmacodynamic assessment, and to assess disease biology and patient segmentation for clinical trials. The role may include working with our CAP/CLIA lab.

The Translational Pathology group is embedded within the Translational Medicine organization. We support end to end global development to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analysis of pathogenetic mechanisms.

The successful candidate will be familiar with, if not expert in, the molecular, cellular, systems biology, and pathogenic mechanisms of disease. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in providing pathology support for drug and biomarker discovery programs in oncology and possibly other therapeutic areas such as immunoscience as the need arises.

The successful candidate should have a good understanding of the principles of other diagnostic modalities and be able to work with data scientists to integrate data across diagnostic platforms in partnership the team leaders of those other modalities. Interaction with key opinion leaders in academia and with contract research organizations is a routine component of this role.

The location for this position is open to regions within the United States.

  • Qualifications:
  • This position requires an MD or foreign equivalent, with ABP board certification in Anatomic Pathology, or combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology, and 5+ years relevant work experience. Candidates with less experience but meeting most of the technical qualifications may be considered for Associate Director level position.
  • We seek candidates with excellent traditional diagnostic pathology skills who demonstrate a strong ability to interpret pathology data in the context of a deep understanding of molecular and cellular biology.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • An MPH or Ph.D. in a related field, in addition to the MD degree, also is desirable as is a clear demonstration of high-quality scholarly productivity in a relevant field of biomedical research.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated their ability to handle several projects at any given time, to work successfully and collaboratively in teams and to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.
  • The position will require some number of days per month, on site in Princeton/Lawrenceville NJ or in Cambridge, MA. Other work days may be from home or possibly at another US BMS site.
