Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
BOC Certification

Bachelor’s degree required (Masters preferred) and at least two years of experience in athletic training after certification (preferably with Power 5, Group of 5, or FCS.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Football Athletic Trainer serves as the primary Assistant Athletic Trainer for the football team: Prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the direction of the Appalachian State University Team Physicians.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily athletic training room operations, coverage of events and practices for football, supervision of athletic training students, and other administrative duties assigned by the Director of Football Athletic Training Services.

The athletic program at Appalachian State University operates on the premise that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the institution’s overall program of education. Priority is given to high standards of both academic and athletic quality — the goal being the complete development of the student-athlete.

At Appalachian State University, student-athletes will be provided with the opportunity and encouraged to progress toward a degree of their choice and the opportunity to develop athletic abilities in an environment consistent with high standards of academic scholarship, sportsmanship, leadership, and institutional loyalty. The intercollegiate athlete representing ASU will be a bonafide student pursuing a degree program as well as an amateur competitor.

The person in this position works outdoors and at times in extreme heat and cold with no protection from the weather.
