POSITION TITLE: Assessing Clerk

STATUS: Regular Full Time

SALARY: 3A $21.71/hr

FLSA: Non-Exempt

PCN: AS0173

UNION STATUS: 01 APEA

REPORTS TO: Office Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: none

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform a variety of general and skilled clerical and office tasks within established Assessment Department guideline.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. Greet visitors at the counter, answer phone, determine nature of business and respond to requests for service and information.

2. Maintain manual and computerized assessment and land ownership records.

3. Perform clerical filing functions and typing of general correspondence and memos.

4. Work with senior citizens, veterans and widow/widowers in preparing processing exemption applications.

5. Assist the public in operating the current assessing department's computer system.

6. Process change of address forms and exemption applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience. Work related experience in a field indicating familiarity with property descriptions.

2. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer with speed and accuracy, and operate other office-related machines. (Microsoft Word, Excel are required, prefer MS Outlook) Prefer experience with scanners/scanning software.

3. Must be an accurate and proficient typist/keyboarder.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Basic math skills required.

2. Ability to deal pleasantly and courteously with the public under stressful situations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

3. Must possess strong communication skills.

1. A SKILLS TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.

JOB CONTACTS:

Frequent interdepartmental business contact and continuous routine public contact involving outside organizations/agencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:

Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General office where conditions are pleasant; good, clean working conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of light lifting, pushing or pulling (1-25 lbs.).
