Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in airport management, business administration, or closely related field.
Requires four (4) years in airport operations work including one (1) year lead work/supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.
Preferences
- Airport Security Coordinator designation
- AAAE Airport Certified Employee- Security
- FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700
- Developed and implemented airport security initiatives/programs
- Supervised a team that ensured compliance with an Airport Security Program and TSA Security Directives
- Directly responsible for Airport Security Program modifications
- Masters Degree in Aviation Management or Business Management
All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
- The management and supervision of personnel responsible for Aviation Security Compliance.
- Performing security inspections, tenant lease compliance, airport emergency response in a 24/7 environment.
- Compliance with all federal, state and local regulations including 49 CFR 1520. 1540, 1542 and TSA Security Directives.
- Development and implementation of training, exercises, plans, procedures and/or policies for an Airport Security Operations Group.
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to seven (7) interrupted hours during an eight hour shift in a fast paced environment.
- Must be able to physically access remote and/or cramped airport areas, occasionally in adverse weather, and under emergency and stressful conditions.
- Must be able to respond to airport emergencies, directs use of aviation department resources, and coordinates with emergency, law enforcement and federal agencies.
- Must be able to work shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to pass extensive security screening, including but not limited to fingerprint checks, employment verification and such other procedures as may be mandated by Federal law as a continuing condition of employment.
Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Provides overall supervision and directs subordinates in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures involving airport safety, security, daily operations, appearance, etc.; performs administrative work including creating schedules, timesheets, evaluations, training, briefings, and disciplinary reports.
Performs research and prepares reports as requested on legislation, rules, operational policies/procedures and other factors having an impact on airport operations; assists division management in implementing and maintaining currency in operations manuals, emergency plans, ground transportation plans, training programs and other publications utilized by the Aviation Department.
Develops, coordinates and implements operating procedures related to the routine and emergency operation of the assigned specialized area; writes and reviews reports for daily activities, incidents and accidents, operational information, and other items as needed.
Trains staff and interns on operational requirements, job duties, safety issues, airfield driving, and other duties; schedules inspections, briefings and receives reports through subordinates.
Responds to airport emergencies, directs use of Aviation Department resources, and coordinates with emergency, law enforcement and federal agencies; directs subordinate personnel in support of incident command function during emergencies; develops, coordinates and implements operating procedures related to the routine and emergency operation of the assigned specialized area; manages the Emergency Response and the scene during the event, coordinates the airport staff, tenants and other responding agencies.
Ensures safe and secure airfield, terminal complex, garages, roadways for the traveling public and airport users by overseeing, coordinate and responding to events, reporting and following up on outstanding issues/work which could directly affect operations.
Ensures accurate and frequent communication among staff, tenants, contractors, and airport users; manages personnel staffing, payroll, time off requests, and discipline, etc.
Prepares subordinate's monthly and yearly evaluations, biweekly time sheets and expectation/appreciation memos.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
