General Description
Niagara County Community College is welcoming applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor to teach Accounting in our Business and STEM Division. This position will be responsible for student advisement, assessment of learning outcomes, participation in divisional and college activities and all required duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. The typical teaching load is 15 lecture hours per semester which will be comprised of both face-to-face instruction on campus as well as online modalities. In addition, the Assistant Professor will be responsible for attending regular office hours, meetings on campus and participating in committees. Teaching assignments may be during day, evening, or weekend hours.

The appointee may also be assigned with the coordination of the accounting program within the division therefore candidates with strong communication, creativity, strategic thinking and time management skills will be successful in this role.

The start date of this position will be late August of 2023 for the beginning of the Fall 2023 Semester.

Lectures are typically three contact hours per week per course.. Accounting courses currently offered by the department include Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Computerized Accounting, and Income Tax Procedures. Classes are held on the NCCC’s main campus in Sanborn, NY.

The Assistant Professor will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.

The base salary of $62,186 per year for a 10-month Assistant Professor but will increase with the additional responsibilities of the Coordinator of the program. There are additional opportunities to increase the salary further by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, doing special assignments etc. Since this position is tenure track there is a pathway for promotion to higher level salaries Associate Professor and Professor.

Typical Work Activities
Instruction
  • Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning to help ensure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives
  • Ensure appropriate course-level rigor in class instruction and assessment methodologies.
  • Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including, but not limited to, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with the NCCC mission and vision.
  • Provide at least 5 office hours per week

  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of discipline/field of study as evidenced by active participation in professional organizations, maintenance of current scholarly collection of resources, and engagement in active, on-going dialogue with peer faculty and industry experts.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings.


Administrative duties
  • Meet requirements for creation, distribution, and retention and/or submission of paperwork.
  • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback to Program Coordinator and/or the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Complete required reporting such as student attendance, census, student learning outcome progress (course level), and final grade calculation and entry.
  • Attend required College functions and events.
  • Participate in faculty senate and divisional committees.
  • Advise students for classes and career options.

Program Coordinator duties (if assigned):
  • Recordkeeping, budgeting, scheduling
  • Program updates (syllabi, degree requirements)
  • New course and program development
  • Represent the program at open houses
  • Program evaluation (PEER) and Advisory Board
  • Hiring, training and evaluation of adjunct faculty and part-time technical assistants
  • Supervision of College Accelerated Program (CAP) courses at local high schools
  • Other duties as assigned by the AVP of Academic Affairs

Must be able technologically adept. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with at least 18 credit hours of Accounting courses.
  • A Masters of Arts or Science degree in Business Administration in Accounting, Education, Business Administration or related field.
  • One semester of teaching experience at a high school or college level.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a discipline that relates to this position.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Course development at the college level.
  • Experience with classroom technologies including learning management systems and Zoom.
  • Experience with using online publisher content and homework/testing management systems.
  • Professional certifications or memberships in professional organizations.
  • Management-level or supervisory work experience.
