Job description
Provide meaningful academic advisement to Kennedy Center students, day-to-day management of the advisement office, manage a student advisor training program which includes regular ongoing student mentoring, and help with planning student outreach events.Essential Functions
Academic/Career Advising Coordinate with advising team to provide the best possible advising to BYU students. Strategically assist students in choosing majors/minors as they plan for life after college according to their interests and professional goals. Advise students on Academic Warning, Probation and Suspension, including working with students on Academic Improvement Plans. Declare or change students’ majors/minors. Place and remove academic holds. Authorize graduation plans. Relay and enforce University policies. Correct academic discrepancies on students’ records, work with faculty to resolve individual student curriculum variances. Integrate academic and career advising. Prepare presentations and present at new student orientation, major fairs, and faculty coordinator training meetings. Create and update informational material for students as needed. Streamline and make more efficient advising processes in the advisement center and oversee updates to the training manual.
Student Employee Supervisor Manage a student training program for Kennedy Advisement Center student employees. Provide student mentoring and professional development training to student employees and when necessary, provide feedback for needed performance improvement. Assess and evaluate office processes and procedures to continually implement improvements.
Miscellaneous Help plan Kennedy Center Convocation ceremony and reception. Plan and execute student outreach events for Kennedy Center students. Engage in ongoing professional development available through professional conferences, advisor training and certification programs, in-service, etc.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years advisement
experience OR
- Master’s degree OR
- Advisement certification (or equivalent
advisement experience
OR
Master’s degree in advisement or counseling and 4 years of advisement experience OR
- Master’s degree in relevant area and graduate coursework in counseling/advising and career theory and 4 years of advisement experience OR
- Advisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework) and 4 years of college advisement experience
- Master’s degree in relevant area, an advisement certification, and at least 5 years of management experience
