Purpose Statement

The job of Behavior Interventionist is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for effecting positive behavioral change in students; providing referrals to families and/or students; and complying with mandated policies, regulations and/or procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Acts as liaison with the staff and families for the purpose of supporting individual student development goals.
  • Collects and analyses student data gathered through observation, interviews, and assessment for the purpose of developing effective intervention plans to assist students in reaching academic goals in a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitors intervention plans for students for the purpose of ensuring students are having a successful day.
  • Supports students by pushing into the classroom, coaching students through replacement behaviors, hosting students who need a safe place, assisting students with academic and organizational needs for the purpose of assisting the student in reaching academic goals in a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assists in developing procedures and training materials focused on strategies and interventions for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Communicates with teachers, students, staff for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or intervention plans and maintaining necessary confidentiality.
  • Conducts behavior meetings to provide strategies and interventions, and models in classroom management techniques, other strategies, and interventions for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with students.
  • Reports suspension of child abuse and neglect through contact with school staff and outside agency personnel for the purpose of complying with mandated requirements.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings (Trauma Informed Care Team, Student Success Team, Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports Team), workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to Page 2 of 3 satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; and, preparing and maintaining accurate records.


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include age-appropriate activities/behaviors; assessment instruments and techniques; office application software; and, recordkeeping and record retention practices.


ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and, working as part of a team.


Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 10% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.


Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired. Education: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.

Required Testing: Post Offer Physical Exam

Continuing Educ./Training: 15 hours an initial year and 10 hours each year thereafter. MANDT Training, Trauma-Informed Care Training

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
