This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Trades/Maintenance Worker 2 position for the Department of Athletics at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.).

The Trades Maintenance 2 reports to the Director of Facilities & Operations, daily tasks include facilities preparation, maintenance, and repair to equipment, facilities, and grounds. The Trades/Maintenance worker maintains a clean, attractive, well landscaped facilities appearance and ensures a safe environment on and around the grounds of the Athletic Department, which includes parking lots and athletic fields. The employee assists with the installation and operation of the irrigation and sprinkler systems and maintains those systems as well as all other equipment and tools on site. The employee is responsible for providing general and preventative maintenance to the athletic venues and buildings, including but not limited to minor plumbing repairs, repairing walls and doors, masonry work, minor electrical repairs, fabricating wood structures, and repairing seating and concession areas. Position Duties
55% GENERAL & PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE , PLUMBING & CARPENTRY ACTIVITIES
  • Plumbing: Performs plumbing repairs when needed, such as installs new plumbing including pipes, drains, tubs, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment; makes repairs on old plumbing such as replacing breaks and renewing washers and valves, replaces mixing valves; cleans and opens drains and other water lines.
  • Carpentry: Assists with remodeling and minor projects when needed, performs general maintenance and construction work such as building fences, repairing structures, installing shelves, doors, and framing walls. Will use power tools such as a drill press and radial arm saw, etc. Repairs all types of seating in our venues.
  • Painting: Paints and primes areas inside and outside of our facilities.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Will work to set up preventive maintenance plans around fixtures and facilities based on need.


15% TURF AND PLANT CARE
  • Mow and edge lawns and fields with the use of push or riding mower, tractor, power edger.
  • Repairs, grooms, sweeps, and preps synthetic fields.
  • Plant, transplant, fertilize, and water lawns, trees, and shrubs. Provide proper pruning and grooming of all plants.
  • Eradicate weeds manually (pulling, tilling, or using line trimmers) and perform weed prevention strategies by mulching or using the appropriate herbicides.
  • Apply pesticides appropriately when needed.
  • Install irrigation and sprinkler systems, which include digging trenches by hand or with the use of a tractor.
  • Lay and connect pipes, valves, sprinklers, and controls appropriately, troubleshoot and maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems as needed.
  • Fill in trenches and flatten road grades as needed (use of bulldozer or road grader).
  • Install drainage line as per city approved engineering drawings.
  • Remove all debris, leaves, brush, from lawns, roofs, sewers, utility tunnels, streets, sidewalks and areas around facilities using rakes, blowers, vacuums, and shovels.
  • Remove trash and litter from lawns, parking lots, building entrances, adjacent roadways, and sidewalks under agency jurisdiction. Empties trash as needed.
  • Transport litter, plant debris, and trash to dump or incinerator by truck.
  • Remove ice and snow from walkways and parking lots.
  • Fill potholes, repair benches and signposts.

10% STAGING ATHLETIC
  • Stage athletic venues for all facilities under jurisdiction of the unit and will stage, as directed, for practice and competition – this could include deployment of bleachers, set up and removal of electronic equipment for game day operations (scoreboards, timers, chairs, tables).
  • Set up and remove portable basketball hoops to comply with NCAA standards.
  • Line the fields for soccer, baseball, softball, football according to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Prepare baseball and softball infields, as necessary, for practice and competition according to NCAA rules and regulations.

10% EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on tools and equipment such as lawnmowers, chain saws, and blowers and periodically clean tools in tool shop.
  • Refer major repairs out to appropriate repair person.
  • Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and power equipment (check fluids, lubrication, cleaning as needed).
  • Repair and test irrigation and sprinkler systems as needed.
  • Maintain components on the electric bleachers.

10% OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Minimum Qualifications

Three years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding. NOTE: Some positions may require licensure or certification in a specific trade area.

Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Will work evenings and weekends. This position is deemed essential, and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
