Technical

Physical

  • Must be able to perform general physical activities throughout an 8-hour shift including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, lifting, and balancing.
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout an 8-hour shift.
  • Must have multi-limb coordination.
  • Must have good arm-hand control and dexterity.
  • Must be able to see details at a close range.

-Adhere to all safety compliance and standards

- Must be able to operate all tool room equipment without instruction

- Use sketches, blueprints, specifications and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency

- Ability to use manual lathes and mills

- Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies

- Repair or remake tooling and dies for production (various presses: restrike, stamping, progressive, etc.)

- Utilization of various grinders (hand grinder, surface grinder, etc.)

- Interpretation of in-depth blueprint drawings

- Determination of data from blueprints (i.e. hole sizes, tool sizes, reference points, and direction of machine cutting paths)

- PM sharpening of various tooling

- Change-over of dies for production

- Side/End Panel saw change overs and trouble shooting

- Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated and unusual setups necessitating frequent improvisations and adaptations of tooling and machines

- Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers and micrometers
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools and dies
- Set up and cut internal or external threads of a non-standard specification. Repair and recondition die parts sometimes requiring the addition of a weld to die sections and machining and fitting die parts
- In the absence of specifications or design detail, proceed from own conception and select materials, dimensional allowances for fits and tolerances, material treatment methods, etc
- Troubleshoot complicated die functioning problems in press
- Occasionally do experimental work on mechanisms, testing devices or machining complicated parts
